A young married couple moves from a small town into a strange home Amanda Seyfried is one of my favorite actresses, she has so much range and does such diverse movies. As far as the movie goes, it was a decent watch. The atmosphere throughout the film was super mysterious and ominous, and as the story progressed, the setting got even creepier. The storyline is interesting, there are overlapping stories, and towards the end, things escalate so quickly that it kept me on the edge-of-my-seat. – Zoha Junaid

22. Escape Room

Inspired by Saw and multiple other survival and problem-solving films, Adam Robitel’s Escape Room follows the course of six random strangers who find their way in an escape room, in return for a ten grand cash prize. Although the movie comes nowhere near the entertaining movies in this genre, it is not entirely disappointing either as it is entertaining at times. – Surya Komal

21. Fear Street Trilogy

Probably one of the better Netflix Originals in a long time, Fear Street, based on R. L. Stine’s book series of the same name, is not certainly scary but it is entertaining, gory, and a captivating slasher trilogy. Supported by a decent storyline, charismatic actors, and good performances in all three films, Fear Street is recommended if you’re up for a good thriller. – Surya Komal

Brightburn stars Elizabeth Banks and David Denman in the lead roles and narrates an alternate storyline of a kid gifted with superpowers. On the whole, Brightburn worked well as an uncomical origin story in all actuality, this movie is a fresh new take on the origin story we have seen many times before. It is short, slick, and gory to the fullest extent comprised of some fine performances from the lead cast. A decent and one of the Best Horror Movies on Netflix India. – Surya Komal

16. Don’t Breathe

Directed by Fede Alvarez, Don’t Breathe is, without a doubt, one of the best directed and presented horror films of the last decade. With characters that are partially developed and a central theme based around claustrophobia, Don’t Breathe takes chances and captivates you as a viewer from the beginning till the end. One of the finest and the most entertaining films of Brad Pitt, World War Z is a horror/action-drama that exists in a world hit by a very serious plague where humans turn into zombies. With well-shot action scenes, some decent drama and performances from the cast, and a climax which concluded the film on a high note, World War Z is a worthy watch on any given weekend.

Nang Nak is the first horror film I ever had the pleasure of watching. Based on a Thailand legend, the film is set in the late 1860s and revolves around a young husband who returns from war, unaware of what happened to his family in his absence. A romantic tragedy horror film, Nang Nak has a touching love story that is emotional and bone-chilling at the same time. The phrase, a love that transcends death is the foundation of this emotional feature and you’ll find yourself thinking about existential questions about love, life and death long after the film has ended.

The scares were well-thought out and the director does well to build the tension from the start at a steady pace, reminding the audience that there just might be something around the corner. Nang Nak has its dry spots and they act as speed breakers to an otherwise solid film. However, being an Asian film, there are bouts of sentimentality littered all over that the western audience might be unused to and confused about.

There is minimal acting in this picture, but I personally thought it contributed to the setting of the film and the lives of ordinary people in rural Thailand. Nang Nak comes highly recommended and you might just shed a tear once you’re done with this unique horror film. One of the Best Horror Movies on Netflix India. – Siddharthen

Following the concept of tense and creepy atmospheric films like The Invitation and The Innocents, Apostle, is an intense yet steady descent into terror and has a ruthless storyline and has a masterful way of narrating its story.

It is very transparent and wants you to understand that there is something around the corner that will scream at you in time to come. There is mastery in its execution, but the extremities of the content, as well as the jerkiness in the tone, might be off-putting to some. – Siddharthen

The Ritual follows the perilous hike of four middle-aged men to the King’s Trail in Northern Sweden. After paying respects to their recently deceased friend, the lads take a different route on their way back into a dense forest where eerie things start to appear.

When it comes to the technical aspects, this movie was breathtaking. The grand extravagant panorama of Northern Sweden was captured masterfully and was an absolute treat to the eye. The sound design, sound mixing, and the ominous background score complimented the camera work as the film felt like an experience which should not be missed. Overall, The Ritual is one of the Best Horror Movies on Netflix India, watch it on a big screen with the volume rocked up to the maximum. – Surya Komal

2. Gerald’s Game

The narrative involves a middle-aged couple striving to keep their marriage together as they take a weekend off to spend quality time together at their deserted vacation home. Involving only three or four characters at best and encompassed within a limited setting, the tightly written script by Jeff Howard and Mike Flanagan is the film’s strong suit here.

The dialogue between the characters, the emotional connotations, the self-discovery aspects develop an interesting character study of Jessie, played by Carla Gugino, who does an impeccable job showcasing the pain, anguish and adversity that her character had to go through while remaining handcuffed to the bedpost. Overall, this film is a riveting thriller carried by some splendid performances, writing, and a top-notch direction. – Surya Komal

1. 1922

Director – Zak Hilditch
Cast – Thomas Jane & Molly Parker

Based on another novella of the same name by Stephen King. 1922 is a character study of Wilfred James (played by Thomas Jane), a typical corn-field farmer who prides himself by saying that “A man’s pride was a man’s land.” Soon after few altercations with his wife, Wilfred convinces his son, Henry, to accompany him in murdering his mother as the film moves along with few nightmarish consequences.

Extending the point I made before, this movie is a character study and enhances the concepts of Karma, foolishness, intolerance and guiltiness masterfully. The three or four characters in the film were all written and utilized appropriately by director Zak Hilditch, primarily, the lead character of Wilfred, who undergoes massive trauma and regrets almost everything happened in the year 1922 in his otherwise happy family life.

Overall, 1922 is a horrific psychological drama filled in with profound meanings of different aspects about life. One of the Best Horror Movies on Netflix India and a top priority if you’re a movie fan. – Surya Komal
