darna mana hai review

Director – Prawaal Raman
Starring – Nana Patekar, Vivek Oberoi

Only Ram Gopal Varma possesses a special skill that can make apples look scary. This film was a unique and innovative attempt as the director has clubbed six creative short stories, each incorporated with a spooky twist. Darna Mana Hai has shown us how one can scare the sh*t out of people without going for gore, and supernatural monsters route. If you’re into dark and short movies, Darna Mana Hai will be a treat for you. The first story from the anthology is still considered as horrifying by many 90s kids.

Raaz movie review

Director – Vikram Bhatt
Starring – Bipasha Basu & Dino Morea
Streaming Platform – YouTube

Inspired by the Michelle Pfeiffer starrer What Lies Beneath, Raaz was just the beginning of Bipasha’s Bollywood Horror Movies chapter. She was a part of blunderous horror films, but, Raaz was an exception. As the franchised advanced further, the quality of the movies deteriorated, but, this first instalment was pretty impressive.

3. Naina
naina movie review

Director – Shripal Morakhia
Starring – Urmila Matondkar
Streaming Platform – Hotstar

Naina was a remake of Hong Kong- Singaporean film The Eye. Although Bhoot is considered as Urmila’s Best Bollywood Horror Movies to date, Naina will not disappoint you in comparison. The movie explores the story of a young girl who after getting cornea transplant sees eerie things. She complains of multiple vision problems which Samir Patel – a psychiatrist, diagnoses as hallucinations.

The movie further explains the deepest darkest secrets behind these visions. The story leaves you frightened, terrified and petrified. As a horror movie, it packs one genuine scare after another till the climax. I still remember watching Naina with my cousins at lunchtime and leaving the food and going upstairs because I was damn scared or rather say scarred for life.

Anvita Dutt Guptan’s retelling of an age-old story starring Tripti Dimri in the lead role in a supernatural setting is exceptional to watch from the get-go. The story keeps getting better as the film progresses and is also an empowering film with a touch of horror.
