Top 8 Movies Releasing in August 2019

Upcoming Movies August 2019: Moving the past the Summer season. The month of July turned out to be partly delightful, with movies like Oh! Baby and Spider-Man: Far From Home entertaining the audience members. However, few of the most anticipated films like Vijay Deverakonda’s Dear Comrade and Disney’s The Lion King did not impress the viewers despite releasing with humongous expectations. Now, let us take a look at the various highly-anticipated movies releasing across languages in the month of August.

8. Evaru

evaru 2019

Language – Telugu
Release Date – August 15, 2019
Cast – Adivi Sesh, Regina Cassandra
Director – Venkat Ramji

After tasting blockbuster success with Goodachari, Adivi Sesh is back with yet another intriguing film, directed by Venkat Ramji. The film looks like a remake of this year’s hit Bollywood film Badla, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, which itself was an adaptation of 2017 Spanish film The Invisible Guest.

7. Manmadhudu 2

nagarjuna and rakul preet singh in manmadhudu 2

Language – Telugu
Release Date – August 9, 2019
Cast – Nagarjuna & Rakul Preet Singh
Director – Rahul Ravindran

Sequel to the 2002 film of the same name, Manmadhudu 2 has Akkineni Nagarjuna and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles and Samantha Akkineni, Keerthy Suresh and Akshara Gowda in extended cameo appearances. Interesting thing to be noted is that the prequel had the tagline; “He Hates Women” and now with the sequel it is tweaked to “He Loves Women.” Rahul Ravindran directing is also another primary reasons why I’m excited for this film . He made a mature love story with Chi La Sow (an underrated sleeper-hit) for his directorial debut last year. So, it seems that he will bring something new to this tried and tested genre.

6. Kaappaan

suriya in kaappaan

Language – Tamil
Release Date – August 30, 2019
Cast – Suriya, Mohanlal, Arya
Director – Rahul Ravindran

Suriya, whose recent venture NGK with director Selvaraghavan, didn’t turn out as expected. But, he is back with another film with Director K.V. Anand who earlier directed Ayan and Maattraan with Suriya in the lead. This is the first time Suriya would be sharing screen space with Mollywood Superstar Mohanlal who was last seen in Tamil Industry with Vijay in Jilla. The trailer looks absolutely stunning and promises to be an out-and-out action entertainer. Also the super-hit combo of Suriya and Harris Jayaraj is back ruling our playlists already.

5. Batla House

John Abraham in Batla House

Language – Hindi
Release Date – August 15, 2019
Cast – John Abraham, Mrunal Thakur

Batla House (the movie) is based on true events, Operation Batla House which took place on 19 September 2008.  John Abraham, who is now only interested in doing patriotic films from Parmanu, Satyameva Jayate (which released on Independence Day last year) to this year’s underwhelming spy-thriller, Romeo Akbar Walter is back again with a similar film which involves terrorists, military police and Nora Fatehi’s special dance number. Let’s hope that he at least finds a way to make a watchable film this time.

4. Mission Mangal

Mission Mangal poster

Language – Hindi
Release Date – August 15, 2019
Cast – Various
Director – Jagan Shakti

Bollywood has lately been looking out stories and inspiration from various real life incidents, Parmanu and Uri: The Surgical Strike to quote some example for. On that list joins Mission Mangal which is based on the story of scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation who were a part of the Mars Orbiter Mission and contributed to it, which was India’s first interplanetary expedition. The movie has a excess star cast of Akshay Kumar, Vidhya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Sonakshi Sinha, Kriti Kulhari, and Sharman Joshi.

3. Nerkonda Paarvai

ajith kumar in Nerkonda Paarvai

Language – Tamil
Release Date – August 8, 2019
Cast – Ajith Kumar
Director – H.Vinoth

‘Thala’ Ajith, as he is fondly called by his fans, gets into the shoes of Bollywood giant Amitabh Bachchan for the remake of his super-hit film Pink banked by Boney Kapoor and directed by H.Vinoth of Theeran Adhigaram Ondru fame. I’m finally glad that Ajith came out of captivity from Director Siva, who went on to make four films with him, each of them being mediocre to horrible. Being someone who has seen the original film and the trailer with a stunt scene, it would be interesting to see how they’ve shaped the script to satisfy the hard-core fans as well as maintaining the essence of the original.

2. Hobbs & Shaw

Hobbs Shaw vanessa kirby

Language – English
Release Date – August 2, 2019
Cast – Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham

Director – David Leitch

Marketed as the first spin-off movie in the Fast and the Furious franchise, Hobbs and Shaw star two of the biggest international names in the industry accompanied by Idris Elba in the antagonist role. Introducing the superhero element to the franchise, this movie promises more fun and delight to the viewer and with David Leitch (John Wick and Deadpool 2 fame) serving as the director, we can only expect utmost ridiculousness.

1. Saaho

prabhas shraddha kapoor saaho

Language – Telugu
Release Date – August 30, 2019
Cast – Prabhas, Shraddha Kapoor

Director – Sujeeth

Made on a whopping budget of 300 crore, Saaho is a trilingual film, simultaneously shot in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and also being dubbed in Malayalam. The trailer created a buzz among the movie goers for its high voltage action sequences and prosaic CGI. The film marks the debut of Prabhas in Bollywood and he shares screen space with Shraddha Kapoor who reminds me of Angelina Jolie from Salt. Prabhas has dedicated two years for this film and has put his heart and soul into it, training himself in plyometric obstacle race, scuba diving, etc.
