1. Centered Around Weddings

Similarities Between Veere Di Wedding and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Both films revolve around one friend in the group getting married. While in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara it’s Abhay Deol’s Kabir tying the knot in Veere Di Wedding, we see Kareena Kapoor’s Kalindi as the bride. Getting married denotes a change in phase of life for many and we feel that since many thoughts which are not on your mind in one phase might arise in transitioning to the next phase and that gives some great story options.

3. True Friendships last the Test of Time

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara True Friendship

It is said that if your friendship lasts for more than seven years it lasts for a lifetime. This gets proven by both of these films. In Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara the trio has been through turbulent times in the past and still somehow has stayed connected. We see that where Arjun is extremely hurt by what Imran did in college he still sends his condolences when Imran’s father passes away even if it’s via an email.

Veere Di Wedding True Friendship

Also considering that the three surpass all their issues, in the end, is a great endorsement of their bond. In Veere Di Wedding, where girl bonding is on full throttle, we see that at one point all four friends are pointing fingers at each other for their respective choices and the conversation does turn harsh. However, their bond is so strong that they resolve their issues and Kalindi even shares her mom’s jewelry with her friends.

4. Self Reflections

In both the films, we see the characters not just looking upon what their friends are going through but undergo a process of self-reflection as well. Arjun realizing that his life will pass him by in search of money, Kabir’s decision to take a stand for himself, Laila’s point of not carrying any regrets, and Imran’s closure with his birth father all portray the different self-reflection in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

Veere Di Wedding Self Reflections

In Veere Di Wedding also see similar realizations with Kalindi choosing her love and being honest with it, Avni’s turnaround from falling into the societal traps, Sakshi’s moment of truth with her parents, and Meera overcoming her insecurities.

5. Impact of Dysfunctional Families

These two films have picked up and dealt with the impact of dysfunctional families with great subtlety. In Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Imran’s world is shaken when he becomes aware that his father is not who he believes to be. This makes him embark on a search and somewhat manipulate his friends in taking a trip to Spain to look for his own answers without telling them until the trip is almost over.

Veere Di Wedding vs Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Kalindi from Veere Di Wedding is subconsciously averse to the idea of long term commitment because of what she has seen happen with her own parents and how unhappy that made her family. She looks to her uncle for support and runs from the extra attention showered by her mom in law because of the issues from her childhood.
