Four More Shots Please 2 Review: Surprisingly Well-Made!

I still remember ranting about Season 1 of Four More Shots Please, for comprising quite a few sensual scenes, and couldn’t withstand the girls making bad decisions and jeopardizing their relationships. And I certainly was not in a mood to go through all the faulty decisions that the girls were about to make, and hated it even before watching it. But to my surprise, the makers have largely improvised the show from Season 1 and broadened the narrative to more appropriate content. So, let’s see how the second season of Amazon’s first all-women protagonist show – Four More Shots Please bettered from the previous season.

Siddhi Patel (Maanvi Gagroo), backpacking all alone in Istanbul, drunk calls her friend Umang Singh (Bani J), and blabbers about jumping off a bridge, because of being not able to figure out what to do with her life, and also not having a boyfriend. Panicking about what’s going to happen to her friend, Umang informs Damini (Sayani Gupta) and Anjana (Kirti Kulhari) and they decide to visit Istanbul to save their friend. Since they’re not in talking terms after the end of Season 1, they hesitantly fly to Istanbul for old times’ sake only to find Siddhi hooked by with a random Turkish guy.

So, the series starts on a funny note, but that incident makes the girls let go off their past problems and become friends once again. Now, on a more serious note, they try to figure out what they need in life. They even try to move on from their past relationships which turned out to be ugly and seek closure. Did they hit it off this time in their love lives? How did they change, and what did they learn from their past mistakes, and how they shaped their future is explained in this ten-episode series.

Well, as I previously stated, I’m glad that the creators enhanced the show in terms of content, writing and sketching the characters, making them compelling. With Nupur Asthana as the show director and Devika Bhagat heading the writing department, they made commendable changes. This time they focused more on offering good content for the audience to watch and managed to keep me hooked till the very end.

What I disliked more about the first season of Four More Shots Please were all the bad decisions the girls took, being more self-centered and not considering the feelings of the guys they hooked up with. Even this time, they screw up certain things, but at least they’re sorry for what happened and give closure to their relationships. Yet they haven’t seemed to have learned a lesson from their past mistakes and past affairs but they at least put efforts to rekindle this time.

The friendship between the four girls was charming to watch, and no matter what happens they have each other’s back. Also, this season, there aren’t many scenes in the famous Truck Bar where they usually hang out over tequila shots. However, there are quite a few scenes only in the bar as the series focuses more on their personal lives, trying to bring the bits and pieces together and making it meaningful.

As the show is about city-based contemporary girls, having a lavish lifestyle, the whole show was colorful and had an expensive outlook. Starting from Istanbul, moving to Mumbai and ending it at Udaipur, the production design looked incredible. Also, the Fashion Director, Aastha Sharma, ornamented the girls with beautiful looking outfits as they look gorgeous through and through.

The performances from the complete cast were top-notch. The four girls are the heart and soul of the show and they did a remarkable job in every scene. Another notable performance was from Milind Soman, who looked ravishing. Despite sharing limited screen space he managed to stand out from the rest. Samir Kochchar, as a successful lawyer, came as a surprise for me, and I enjoyed his portrayal of his character.

To talk about the negatives, excluding the fact the girls end up being not able to decide what they need and screw whatever they have with them, the second season amazed me for the most part. To be honest, I don’t have complaints with the writing or the direction, but I did have an issue with the characters’ inability to cope up in a relationship. However, that was in Season 1, and the successor had more transitions in writing and making the girls look more desirable and have compassion for them by the end. Yes, I felt bad for the first time since Season 1 and I genuinely wished something nicer to happen.

Nonetheless, Season 2 of Four More Shots Please advanced miles ahead from what it initially was, and transpired into a more likable one. With ten episodes in its kitty, this one is binge-worthy. If you’re like me who hated the first season for obvious reasons, I would urge you to watch this one, and I hope it will change your mind. I would like to end by also asserting that Four More Shots Please is nowhere near from being a great show, but the narrative developed in multiple ways, and it is worth watching.
