I didn’t know what to expect when I went into DC League of Super-Pets. On the surface a very clear cash grab by making a movie that would sell a lot of plush toy animals. And, while I’m sure that’s what they were doing they made a decent movie around it. The voice talent is pretty good. Kevin Hart didn’t do as much of his Hartism’s.

The heart of the story is a kids movie classic but there was one part of the story that caught me off guard, in a good way. The humor was about 50/50 some clever jokes combined with some real lowbrow stuff and an interesting choice to bleep the movie. All in all, DC League of Super-Pets is a decent movie that the whole family can enjoy.

‘DC League of Super-Pets’ Rating – 3/5

Vengeance is directed, written, and stars B. J. Novak, starring Issa Rae, Boyd Holbrook, and Ashton Kutcher. The storyline revolves around a writer from New York, who attempts to solve the mystery surrounding the death of a Texas girl he hooked up with for content for a new podcast. First off, I was fully in love with this movie as it went on and the story got built out more and more.

The main characters are well defined, the humor is amazing, and the acting all hit for me. Novak wants to say a lot about the divide in the US, what it all means, and why we are so divided. I think ultimately he accomplished this goal but the movie does collapse in on itself just a little. For me this was going to be a home run until the third act. The conclusion, while valid in the eyes of the movie, isn’t really what I think should be the takeaway, I know that’s personal but still. All in all, Vengeance is a great dark comedy with a lot to say.
