Release Date – September 6
Director – Andy Muschietti
Starring – James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain
One of the most anticipated horror movies, if not, the most anticipated movies of the entire year, IT: Chapter Two is the sequel to 2017 mega-blockbuster IT. Andy Muschietti returns to the director’s chair with a star-studded cast including powerhouses like James McAvoy and everyone’s favourite actress, Jessica Chastain. Set in 2016, 27 years after the events of the first film, the synopsis suggests that IT (Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd) will return stronger and crueler than ever and I couldn’t more excited to watch this film opening day.
Release Date – September 20
Director – James Gray
Starring – Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones
Touted to be “the most realistic depiction of space travel that’s been put in a movie,” Ad Astra starring Brad Pitt in the lead role is a sci-fi adventure directed by James Gray. One of the primary reasons you should be looking forward to this film is because of Hoyte van Hoytema – The cinematographer behind visual masterpieces like Interstellar, Her and Dunkirk. With Hoytema being the man behind the lens, Ad Astra is one of those movies you cannot miss watching in theaters this Fall 2019.

Release Date – September 20
Director – Adrian Grunberg
Starring – Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone’s return to prominence as he once again portrays the character we all know and love. With a simple plot point which reads “John Rambo travels to Mexico to save a friend’s daughter who has been kidnapped by the Mexican cartel.” The promos suggest an action-packed narrative, and we all have to wait and see how this movie fares with the audience.
Release Date – October 4
Director – Todd Phillips
Starring – Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beets
One of the most anticipated movies of the year, Todd Phillips’ Joker seems to be the initial movie which will jumpstart the awards season this year. About to premiere on September 9th at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), this movie is gaining traction from all over the internet. Especially the viewers who are clamouring for a more realistic version of comic book movies rather than the traditional MCU films we see every year. On the other hand, Joaquin Phoenix seems to be the perfect fit to portray the Clown Prince. And the recent trailers have also solidified the fact that this will surely be a phenomenal movie.

Director – Ang Lee
Starring – Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead
This Ang Lee directorial is lauded as one of the most ambitious projects of his career. Starring Will Smith in a dual role, Gemini Man transacts an intriguing concept and explores the sci-fi-action genre which we do not see more often these days. With Life of Pi being And Lee’s last notable directorial work, it should be interesting to see if Gemini Man is his return to form.
Release Date – October 11
Director – Ruben Fleischer
Starring – Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone
Zombieland: Double Tap is the long-awaited sequel to Zombieland (2009), a post-apocalyptic zombie comedy film which was widely appreciated for its comedic timing and the way it was represented as a fun zombie adventure. Double Tap seems to (hopefully) echo the same amount of fun the first film delivered and with the main lead cast returning to re-enact their roles, this film could end up being one of the best films by the end of Fall 2019.

Director – Mike Flanagan
Starring – Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson
Lauded for his work on last year’s critically acclaimed and widely popular Netflix Original Haunting of the Hill House, Mike Flanagan is arguably one of the best horror film directors working in Hollywood right now. His upcoming release, Doctor Sleep will serve as the sequel to the1980 horror masterpiece, The Shining, directed by the mastermind Stanley Kubrick. The 2019 film will explore the life of an adult Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor), a man with psychic powers who struggles with alcoholism. With his sublime technical prowess and the ability to tell a captivating story with the right amount of scares, Flanagan will no doubt deliver the best product, and Doctor Sleep will wind up as one of the movies of 2019.
Release Date – November 1
Director – Tim Miller
Starring – Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger
A direct sequel to the1991 classic, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Dark Fate written by James Cameron and directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool fame) is most certainly an interesting film to watch out for. This movie also brings back few of the original cast members in Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger. On the other hand, Mackenzie Davis plays a pivotal role as a soldier-assassin converted into a cyborg and Gabriel Luna as Rev-9. Retconning, the remaining other Terminator movies released after Judgment Day this Fall 2019 sci-fi action thriller might just be the movie we all wanted since 1991.

Director – Jake Kasdan
Starring – Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart
Also releasing this Fall 2019, the sequel to the 2017 blockbuster film, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The Next Level reprises the original cast and a few other prominent names joining the adventure. The impeccable chemistry and the funny moments between the characters are one of the prime reasons why the first movie was very successful worldwide. And hopefully, the sequel will be able to re-create the magic and the comradery between the cast. Nevertheless, Jumanji: The Next Level will certainly be eyeing for that billion-dollar mark it nearly missed the last time.
Release Date – December 20
Director – J. J. Abrams
Starring – Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver
After the supremely controversial – The Last Jedi and the commercially unsuccessful – Solo: A Star Wars Story, the release of The Rise of Skywalker has a lot riding on its shoulders. With this film, JJ Abrams is returning to the director’s chair as it might be the right move made by Disney. If the trailers are any indication, the franchise fans are happy with what they’ve seen so far. And with tons of speculations and theories floating around the internet, will this film live up to all the sky-high expectations and conclude the trilogy on a high note!?
