The Fallout: “Trying to Find the Light within the Dark” – Journal with Yas #7

The Fallout was an emotional film following the personal lives of characters who have just faced a school shooting in America. Starting with the horrific incident, we see the beginning of a friendship form as three students, Vada, Mia and Quinton, huddle in a bathroom cubicle for safety. This scene was moving and eye opening to watch as it focused on the characters responses as they faced the trauma rather than showing graphic content – the sound effects were solely enough.

Jenna Ortega gave a really powerful performance throughout this film as we watch her trying to cope with the trauma and grief, trying to come to terms with what has happened. New friendships, reckless behaviour and a worried family surround her constantly. I was surprised at how good Maddie Ziegler’s acting was in this film, and thought the chemistry between her and Jenna was great.

I enjoyed The Fallout and made me feel grateful to live in a country where guns are banned, and it really just shows how far behind America really is as these shootings happen so often taking the lives of innocent children. 💙💜🔫🇺🇸🚍🍷💊
