Coyote vs. Acme Review: A Blast From Beginning to End!
Movies are pieces of history. One can tell a lot about the state of the world during times that films are released. Whether it be where we are as a society in history, politically, or socially, films are a perfect snapshot of a moment in time that encapsulates the world and where a filmmaker stands on moments in history.

In cinema and entertainment history, the Looney Toons have always been a beloved collection of cartoons since the 1930s featuring some of the most iconic characters to date, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and of course Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. Flash forward to 2022 when the film The Day the Earth Blew Up , starring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig was in talks to be released exclusively on HBO Max, following a reconstruction of Warner Brothers Studios. Luckily, the film was able to be released into theaters in 2024 under Ketchup Entertainment rather than suffering from an anticlimactic streaming release.
What seemed like the first warning sign of Warner Brother’s shady business tactics, 2023 brought the news that Coyote Vs. Acme would be shelved from any release at all in order for Warner Brothers to obtain a 30 million dollar tax write off in anticipation of their merge with Paramount. After massive pushback from people everywhere, Warner Brothers decided to sell the film to another distributor. Re-entering to save the film from the dark abyss was Ketchup Entertainment releasing Coyote Vs. Acme into theaters after a David and Goliath battle. Coyote Vs. Acme is not only a blast from beginning to end but its themes and story of never giving up are scarily familiar to its own personal journey of getting released for all to finally ands rightfully see.
Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner’s story is simple. Coyote’s goal in life to catch the Road Runner, no matter what. He has used Acme products to aid in his endeavors for ages, which always seems to result in the products backfiring because of their faulty construction. When Coyote sees an ad on TV from Avery, Jones & Maltese personal injury law firm specializing in cartoon injuries because of Acme products, Coyote meets with Kevin Avery (Will Forte) to sue the massive Acme corporation for their faulty products that hinder him from catching the Road Runner. As a lawyer who constantly finds pleasure in settling with Acme outside of court, Kevin is roped into a major lawsuit by Coyote that brings him up against one of the largest monopolies in Looney Tunes history.
Coyote vs. Acme is the exact type of film we have been missing for decades. A film likely to warm the heart of everyone, it is a film that harnesses its PG rating (often avoided like the plague by studios) as a symbol to parents that the film is kid appropriate while maintaining an often serious commentary on the power of never being able to fail if one never gives up. Where children’s live action entertainment has ceased to exist in the way it thrived in the 90s and mid 2000s, this film has reminded all the power of storytelling for younger viewers that open up their minds and hearts to core lessons that will take them through life.
Although the film’s central focus lies in the lawsuit between Coyote and the Acme corporation, it never forgets to allow it’s Looney Tunes antics to highlight some of its a most popular characters and tropes. It wouldn’t be a Looney Tunes film without explosions, destroyed cars, violent injuries, or fast-paced action and Coyote vs. Acme never loses sight of staying true to the cartoons. Where it would see that shoehorning in various character would make sense to appease audiences, all of the beloved Looney Tunes including Tweety Bird, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Sylvester the Cat play important roles in the story. Seeing them all together in a way that feels aligned to Coyote’s fight gives the movie a sense of love and community amongst a changing world.
There are always stories that highlight the battle between the little guy and the strong and powerful forces they oppose. Where this is the center of Coyote vs. Acme, it feels different this time, even personal. In a Looney Tunes world where Coyote and Kevin Avery are fighting against one of the largest and most powerful corporations known to man with little possibility of winning, Coyote vs, Acme as a film is fighting a similar battle.
Faced with disappearing forever, with no person ever being able to see the hard work that the cast and crew put into such a fantastic film, all of us “little people” stood up and made enough noise that Warner Bros. felt threatened enough to sell the film rather than destroy it forever. As one of the most prominent and profitable film studios, we the people are our own form of Wile E. Coyote’s that was up against our own form of Acme.
With the film industry changing, the incorporation of AI, and more, we are facing a battle that sometimes feels hopeless. However, what Coyote vs. Acme was able to teach us is that even if we lose time and time again, it should never deter us from losing our voice and giving up the fight. Film history will show how a little film on the brink of its demise was saved by those who cared enough to fight for it. It may be one victory amongst many losses but as Kevin and Coyote never stopped fighting we must do that too. Coyote vs. Acme is a symbol in itself that great film will always have a place and deserves to be seen.
