The Conjuring 3 Review: An Entertaining Thrill Ride!
The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It is directed by Michael Chaves and is written for the screen by David Leslie-Johnson McGoldrick based on the story written by James Wan and David Leslie-Johnson McGoldrick. The movie stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in the primary roles with Ruairi O’ Connor, and Sarah Catherine Hook, in the supporting roles.

The Conjuring 3 tells the storyline of the famous case of Arne Johnson, a murder trial that took place in 1981 in Connecticut. Ed and Lorraine Warren are convinced that Arne Johnson, who is on trial, was possessed before committing the act. After convincing from the Warrens, Johnson’s lawyer submits to the court Not Guilty through demonic possession, and we go on from there.
I’ll start by saying The Conjuring 3 was one of my most anticipated movies of 2021. The one thing that troubled me was the film was not directed by James Wan but instead was directed by The Curse of La Llorona director Michael Chaves. While I think Wan did a better job with the first two films, Chaves does a good job here as the director. Luckily this film is a lot better than The Curse of La Llorona. The screenplay is not quite as good as the first 2 Conjuring films either but still does a more than good job telling the story.
In terms of the visuals, the film looked great. The Conjuring 3 perfected encapsulated the time period of the late 1970s early 1980s. Cinematographer Michael Burgess does an excellent job. What I’d say is the best thing about the Conjuring 3 has to be the performances once again. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are brilliant as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The supporting cast in Ruairi O’Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard is also very good.

The Conjuring 3 is better than most of the films in the Conjuring extended universe and is the best HBO Max home release yet. While I do think it missed some opportunities and fell short of the first two in the main series, it still gave us a very entertaining thrill ride that fans of the franchise like myself will certainly love.
