With increasing competition and ruthless judgement from the audience on all the ladies of Bollywood, there are a few who might find social media alerts like these, helpful to up their games. Previously we discussed and showcased the underrated and underappreciated talents of Bollywood who deserve an opportunity and now on the flip side we take a look at the Most Overrated ones. Here’s presenting the Top Overrated Actresses in Bollywood. [Author’s Disclaimer: This article is not intended to hurt any individual, fan base or artist’s feelings. If there is an actress who I never feel sorry for when she gets poor reviews, its Jacqueline. Her performance in her debut despite winning the Best Debut Award was slammed by critics who said “easy on the eyes, appears confident but has precious little to do” which in my opinion, applies to all her movies. Some of her other reviews so far include comments like “she’s a pinprick on a balloon,” “she’s a blathering bimbo who finds no pleasure in her role” and also “she struts around like a wound-up automaton that is all decked up but has nowhere to go” which may all seem very rude but if you’ve watched some of her movies then you know that she’s really happy and annoying most of the time.
But I appreciate her performances in Brothers as well as Roy but since both of them were commercial flops, she’s probably sticking to playing the over-energetic eye candy or a special song dancer. Her Hollywood debut is barely known due to horrible advertising in India but right now, it’s important that she doesn’t repeat her past mistakes and gets smarter if she wants to survive in this fast growing industry.

The “ex-national crush” created a buzz from her debut in Aashiqui 2. But it took two more movies that it wasn’t acting that she did in her first movie but she was just being herself. Like we didn’t have enough daily soap actresses to flood tears and play the innocent Disney Princess already, Shraddha became the new annoyingly sweet and predictable princess of Bollywood. Her one film to change her fate (Haseena Parkar) didn’t work out and within no time she was back to giving us obvious flops like Rock On 2 and Batti Gul Meter Chalu.
Her percentage of versatility in the characters she has played divided by the number of her movies is zero because anything divided by zero is zero! Her drudging and wearisome performances in Half Girlfriend, OK Jaanu and Stree are completely ignored because one and only one reason, she’s cute. People put up her photos, praise her dancing skills and her off-camera attitude that everything else rules out but she still survives in the industry and that is why she belongs in this list.
Being one of the most controversial and overrated actresses, Sonam Kapoor is the first one I’d like to mention here. She started with chick flicks and movies with mild storylines which barely worked out for her. But, then with Neerja and Mausam, she finally gained attention from the critics and media. Unfortunately, then came disasters like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Veere Di Wedding which were already black marked due to their controversies and her performance in both these movies were appalling enough toher as ‘overrated’. She may be a passionate fashionista but it’s valid to say that she isn’t that good of an actress. As observed, her skills are highly dull and careless in movies like I Hate Luv Storys and Khoobsurat while it is nearly irritating in Aisha and Dolly Ki Doli. But then again, being called overrated doesn’t hinder her capacity (if she has) and only her future projects can prove that to us.

It’s a very obvious choice because she is one of the most overrated actresses in the industry, but, surprisingly, the most hardworking one too. Because everyone knows the dedication and the hard work she had put into to learn all these dance forms and stunts. But, she wasn’t all that bad in the beginning, considering some decent performances in movies like Meri Brother Ki Dulhan and Rajneeti. But, after Ek Tha Tiger in 2012, which according to me was one of the most gruesome performances of hers, her success graph (acting wise) started descending rapidly. Her roles being very pale and annoyingly ordinary paved a way for talented actresses like Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma take over her limelight. Bang! Bang!, Baar Baar Dekho and Dhoom 3 are all reflections of her dreary portrayals of trivial roles.
Coming from a popular background, Kareena Kapoor came in prepared to slay in Bollywood. She won the Best Debut Award and till date, owns six Filmfare Awards. But, the reason she’s in this list is that for her overacting. While Katrina Kaif doesn’t do enough, Kareena Kapoor overdoes it. With a sanskaari beti constantly battling eyelashes to the crazy hyper diva, she always is either loud, jumpy or over dramatic. With the long list of her movies, she did manage to bag some good ones in between, like Talaash, 3 Idiots and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
I also realized that she stays stylish and groomed no matter the character she’s playing. She’s always the hot doctor or the gorgeous teacher. Except for four seconds in Jab We Met, she has never dared to play de-glam roles which are an admired thing these days. Her performances are predictable and similar in almost all her movies which have finally brought her down to this list.

For someone who has been in the show business for nearly a decade, you would expect Yami Gautam to have upped her game by now, but clearly not. Even with box office as well as the critical hits like Kaabil, Vicky Donor and Badlapur, things haven’t been bright for Yami Gautam (except her fair and lovely ads of course) because of her almost identical characters in every movie. She is definitely talented but people will rarely appreciate a repeated role with the same storyline and the same personalities.
Her role in Batti Gul Meter Chalu might have been a turning point which we can judge better in the future, but her films including blunders like Action Jackson, Total Siyappa and Sanam Re have been the prime reasons for the low success graph in her career so far. But she definitely is better than some top Bollywood actresses and that means, with the right movies she’ll undoubtedly earn the fame she deserves one day.
Now, I haven’t got much to complain about Kriti Sanon except pointing out how ordinary she is. She has the considerable fame and supports to take up new types of roles, but, she prefers the cute and kind girl-next-door. The concept of “girl next door” is overrated already and the present generation expect actresses to surprise them by being more expressive as well as experimental. Kriti Sanon amongst all the competition with actresses like Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Taapsee Pannu has managed to create a notable fame for herself and its time she really makes good use of it. Adding to that her performances in the recent Kartik Aaryan starrer Luka Chuppi, Heropanti, Dilwale and Raabta are okay and being called an ‘okay actress’ is nearly the worst thing. But, since she’s still young and spirited, maybe we can hope for some memorable films by her in the future.
Still a newbie, you may be thinking that it’s unfair to judge her this soon but honestly, I don’t see her being successful in the future years at Bollywood at all. She is underwhelming than Kriti Sanon judging by her crummy and forgettable performances in the recent Salman Khan film Bharat, Baaghi 2, Loafer (Telugu). But, I also agree that she was sweet to look at in the commercially successful MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. Her smile gave her the overnight fame along with a title national crush which faded away just as quickly which brings me to point out how inexpressive she is and also that it gets really difficult to analyze the gravity of her emotions in a particular scene. But then again she has adequate attention on her to change her path and we really hope she does.
