Money Heist Part 5 Vol. 2 Review: A Finale That is Two Seasons Too Late!
Created by Álex Pina, Money Heist, five seasons deep, still enjoys a large fan base, notably in India, where the show became a huge phenomenon. Thanks to its intelligent screenwriting technique and the overabundance of melodramatic scenes. Nevertheless, I had and still have a fair share of criticisms regarding this show, and I began as its biggest fan, promoting it to my inner circle. But right after the first episode of the third season, for me at least, everything went south, and it slowly became a chore for me to get through a season.

The storyline of Part 2 in Season 5 of Money Heist picks up right where it left off, with everyone mourning Tokyo’s death and her soul still managing to its best to reiterate the entire saga for us viewers. And as the plot picks up some pace, Sierra manages to flee from the Professor, and a whole lot of trouble begins to ensue, a shitstorm of sorts, but the genius behind the heist still manages to find a way out… Right…?
So, let’s rewind a little and examine how we got here, 47 episodes later, to the grand finale. When Money Heist first started, as I stated earlier, I was very much intrigued by the concept, the exciting twists and turns, and the entire lore of the Professor, Tokyo, and the rest of the characters. I cared about everyone’s backstory as it is nice to watch the emotion behind the heist, which most heist films failed to portray.
But, let’s be perfectly honest, this show should’ve ended with S2 after the first heist. However, with the mega popularity, Netflix made the typical big studio move and chose to elongate the story, and in the process, decayed the quality of the overall show. Time and time again, this approach rarely worked for Hollywood, Hunger Games with the two-part finale is a heavy disappointment, and so are many others.
Furthermore, when you continue to employ the same shtick over and over and over again with the same screenplay structure, it will begin to fatigue the viewer sooner rather than later. The heist gets exceptionally tough to execute, and the crew gets hopeless and emotional, someone eventually dies, and magically the Professor finds out a way to bail everyone out in the end. Don’t get me wrong, this concept was cute, especially in the very beginning, not after 47 episodes.
However, if this show still manages to entertain you, surprisingly, you are not alone, and Part 2 had a lot to offer in terms of entertainment. It packs a punch with all the greatest hits, the drama, emotion, thrill, and style, but unfortunately, I didn’t care about the ending, nor am I sad that the show ended. Bella Ciao!
