Love Death & Robots Review Vol. 2 Review: Unique & Thought-Provoking!

Love Death & Robots is one of my favorite “sci-fi” shows from Netflix in the last few years, so needless to say, I was very excited for Season 2. The stories featured in the show are based on a slew of compelling and neurological short stories curated by various authors. While these stories cover a range of genres framed in allegory, most of them seem to have the overarching theme of being set in a dystopian world or society.

I love how it never follows a specific format or art style. Each episode in Love Death & Robots is different, unique, and thought-provoking. It makes you excited to see what they’re going to do next. Some viewers like myself might find this appealing or a nice change of pace but, for others, I can see how it may not be to their liking.

As mentioned, each episode is narrated in allegory or satire. Every one almost a criticism or moral debate of social structures or customs. If you’re the type who likes to read between the lines, then you’ll no doubt enjoy Love Death & Robots, but if that’s not your thing (or you don’t like using your brain when watching shows), you may not enjoy it as deeply as it’s meant to be.

Love Death & Robots possesses high-quality animation, outstanding voice acting with short, powerful stories. It’s almost remarkable how much they can fit into a 10-15 minute episode. While the team can bring these short stories to life effectively I do believe Netflix could have given them more than eight episodes this season, considering the length of each one. Netflix appears to be making this their new model.

Apparently, it’s the optimal number for bingeing, but I feel like an exception could have been made in this case. If you’re a fan of the sci-fi, abstract or satirical genres, I would definitely give this a watch. My favorite episodes of this season were 2, 3, and 8. Episode 5 was pretty good too.
