Konnappookkalum Mampazhavum Review: Very Substandard!

Abhilashâ€™s Konnappookkalum Mampazhavum is the second pay-per-view film to release on Mainstream TV after Vipin Atley’s Musical Chair, and is premiered at various International Film Festivals and received a positive response for the most part. Exploring the narrative of a group of children spending their school vacation days as the title represents, the time when Cassia fistula (Konna) and mangoes (Mampazham) blooms.

Abhilash blended his experience in handling the kids to create a simple and straightforward storyline that depicts the flaws in parenting and the current education system. The school vacation period is divided into two parts, where the earlier past showcases the freedom of the kids relishing in the backdrop of a temple festival in Kottayam.

Abhilash compounded various art forms into the movie, and it felt like visiting the good ol’ days when Padayani, Kathakali, Tholpavakoothu, Thiruvathira, and many more were displayed in a small frame. The second half of the movie manages us to think over the extra-education curriculum becoming a burden for kids.

Realistic characterization supplemented uniqueness to Konnappookkalum Mampazhavum, and the music by Sharoon Salim fully elevated the story. The cinematography by Adarsh Kurian was average, except for the quality shots of Kottayam Town and Vagamon Hill Station.

Overall, Konnappookkalum Mampazhavum is a substandard movie with mediocre entertaining elements. However, the realistic elements and the unique storyline are worthy enough for you to give it a shot.
