Drishyam 2 Review: Lives Up to the Expectations!

Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 2 on Amazon Prime Video is an intriguing thriller that explores the family drama and the aftermath of the first movie, Drishyam. The storyline is set six years after the “Drishyam” events, where Georgekutty is living his life for the family, taking them through the tough times.

Produced by Antony Perumbavoor, prominent characters in Drishyam 2 are reprised by Mohanlal and Meena, whereas Murali Gopi and Ganesh Kumar are placed well on the charts. With a running time of 153 minutes, the film has an engaging and dramatic feel, with a decent amount of emotional drama.

Let’s start with a brief introduction to the narrative of Drishyam 2. Georgekutty (Mohanlal) went from working as a local cable TV operator to something more in his life, where Rani (Meena) and Anju (Ansiba) live with undying grief in their hearts. The first quarter of the movie takes us to the inside happenings of Georgekutty’s family, and later on, it begins providing hints of the on-going re-investigation of Varun’s murder.

Jeethu Joseph crafted the script of Drishyam 2 with brilliance by dividing the portions so well and leaving behind clues every ten to fifteen minutes. Even with a slow start, the script had enough surprising elements to keep us guessing and engaging all the time.

As to the former part of the movie, Drishyam 2 ended on a high note, with the best overview of a crime-investigation. The film was elevated by the work of the art department, handled by Rajeev Kovilakathu, where he re-created every element of what is around Georgekutty with references to 2013’s Drishyam. Satheesh Kurup’s cinematography had the same renders as the first installment, and the film is a visual treat with vibrant colors of Thodupuzha and its outskirts.

The original background score and the songs composed by Anil Johnson blended into the storyline in presenting a decent mood to the movie. The work of Sinoy Joseph in the sound design calls for huge appraisal along with good assistance from on-location sound recordists, Vineeth Balachandran and Akhilesh Koyilandi. The editing work by V. S. Vinayak has done justice to the well-crafted script.

An extra-ordinary performance was delivered by the “Complete Actor” Mohanlal, where even his glowing eyes communicated very-well to the audience. In delivering the right emotions, Meena complimented well with Mohanlal, and the couple was more mesmerizing compared to the first film.

Ansiba had a meaty role to play in the movie, and she had effortlessly handled the elements of fear and desperateness. Also, Murali Gopi played the role of a cop who is so deep into an investigation and had something substantial to offer to the narrative.

Overall, Drishyam 2 is the best sequel a movie could ever have. With a unique and intriguing storyline, It lives up to expectations and is a must-watch for all. Watch ‘Drishyam 2’ on Amazon Prime Video here.
