Deadly Illusions on Netflix Review: Crapsterpiece!

As you all know, Netflix has released their fair share of “Netflix Original” duds in the past. Every now and then, there are a few that transcend the limitations of how bad a movie can become. “Cuties” and “365 Days” are two examples of this, as both were among the worst films I have ever seen. Now, we have Deadly Illusions, which is an amateur porno masqueraded by some unfittingly Lynchian romantic thriller.

Deadly Illusions is a comedic joke, plain and simple. Every moment that was meant to stimulate some sort of shock or tension was bogged down by the sloppy execution of the director. First off, every performance is just terrible. I’ve never seen anything exceptional from Kristin Davis, but she is fucking awful here.

The worst of performances in Deadly Illusions, comes from Greer Grammar, and every scene shared between the two actresses totally comes off as a failed porno with the most on-the-nose dialogue you can imagine. It is just hilarious. These scenes also possess some lazy editing gimmicks and really bad sound mixing. The music is terribly out of place, treating us to a tone-deaf montage of nonsense.

Everything culminates to an ending that is just a masterclass in bad filmmaking. Holy shit, talk about a clusterfuck. The writers thought they were being smart, yet it is just extremely convoluted and nonsensical. It’s bad enough that the story takes a major turn for the worse with a bizarrely idiotic conclusion, but the mix of all the bad acting, dialogue, cinematography, editing, and sound design truly make it a volcanic combustion of horseshit. Yet, at the same time, it is just so fucking funny.

As a movie, Deadly Illusions is as bad as they come. Every element in this movie is a failure, but it is so hilarious to see this film crumble apart scene after scene. I recommend getting drunk and getting ready to embrace the laughing stock of romantic thrillers with all of its cheesy acting and clammy editing. Watch ‘Deadly Illusions’ on Netflix here.
