Fed up with being single on holidays, two strangers agree to be each other’s platonic plus-ones all year long, only to catch real feelings along the way. Although the storyline and characters were very straightforward and typical for its genre, I had a great and fun time with Holidate. I didn’t really care about the cliches because of how much it made me laugh. Overall, an enjoyable, cheesy, and hilarious rom-com movie that I liked. – Nguyen Dang

Best Romantic Movies on Netflix India: Childhood best friends have a falling out before college and do not see each other for twelve years, but when Sasha opens a restaurant in San Francisco, they reconnect! Always Be My Maybe is a sweet movie. And I love the fact that, unlike almost all other romantic comedies, the girl does not abandon her career for the guy, and that seemed wholesome. Moreover, it was funny, especially the parts with Keanu Reeves, and the rap songs were awesome. – Zoha Junaid

1. Where the Crawdads Sing

Director – Olivia Newman
Cast – Daisy Edgar-Jones & H. Dickenson

Where the Crawdads Sing, one of my top reads in 2021, astounded me as a book-to-film adaptation. Directed by Olivia Newman and featuring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Harris Dickenson, it immersed viewers in Kya’s life as the ‘Marsh Girl’ accused of murder. With stunning cinematography and a caring all-female crew, it’s a refreshing break from formulaic films. Familiar themes blend seamlessly with unique storytelling, showcasing Kya’s strength and yearning for connection. – Stephanie Young
