Director – Saran
Genre – Romantic Drama

Director Saran holds the record of directing the most number of movies with Ajith Kumar, alongside director Siva. Kaadhal Mannan (1998) marks the first collaboration between the super successful combo with Maanu starring as the female lead. As the title depicts the storyline is about how a mechanic – Shiva (Ajith), who is fond of challenges, wins the heart of Thillothama (Maanu), the daughter of a strict Security Force Officer, who despises love. And added to that drama, she is also engaged to a car racer Ranjan (Karan), who is also game for challenges on any given day.
The young charming look of Ajith helped him to switch as a lover boy after Kaadhal Mannan, and music director M. S. Viswanathan’s innocent acting along with Vivek makes us laugh and helps with the pacing of the movie. Bharadwaj’s music blends in well with the romantic side of the movie. The abrupt happy ending of the fils might feel a bit rushed, however, Kaadhal Mannan is a delightful movie that still entertains.
Director – S. J. Suryah
Genre – Romantic Thriller

For the first time in his career, Ajith Kumar plays a dual role, and also a negative character in the blockbuster film – Vaali, which also serves as the directional debut of S. J. Suryah. Shiva (Ajith) falls in love with Priya (Simran), and his beloved elder brother Deva (Ajith), also shows some interest in the same girl. However, Deva’s love for Priya continues even after her marriage with Shiva, and the ramifications of his mad love are further detailed in the remainder of the film.
The deaf and dumb, a little psychic, adamant, and the composed nature of Deva, and the expressive and energetic character of Shiva brought a sensible actor out of Ajith Kumar. With multiple nuances and mannerisms, Ajith makes us believe that he’s playing two different characters, as they are one of the best written and acted dual roles to date.
Shiva’s imaginary girlfriend Sona’s (Jyothika [debut in Tamil]) portion, along with Vivek takes care of the lighter side of the movie. With tolerable plot holes, S. J. Suryah intelligently handled every scene in the film as Vaali is a compelling, and a bold attempt, especially in the 90s. One of the Best Movies of Ajith Kumar.

Murugadoss – Dheena might be the most memorable movie for every Ajith Kumar fan as it presented him with the iconic tag – ‘Thala.’ The movie also succeeded in transforming him from a romantic star to an action hero, who went on to become one of the biggest stars in Kollywood.
Dheena is about Dheenadayalan (Ajith Kumar), an adopted brother of Gangster Adikesavan (Suresh Gopi), who does anything for the love and respect he has for him. However, Dheena turns his back against him due to a few situations as the remainder of the film displays how the heated rivalry gets resolved between them. During a phase where most of his films are light-hearted dramas, Dheena managed to showcase Ajith as an energetic action hero with a ton of charisma. One of the best commercial entertainers, and, undoubtedly, one of the Best Movies of Ajith Kumar.

One of the milestone successes in Ajith Kumar’s career, Billa (2007) directed by Vishnuvardhan yet again has Thala playing a dual role with Lady Superstar Nayanthara, Namitha, and Prabhu in the supporting roles. The story is about how a police team led by DSP Jayaprakash (Prabhu) finds an international Don – David Billa and his gang with the help of a proxy Velu.
Despite being a remake, Vishnuvardhan succeeds in spicing up the movie through his top-notch stylish scenes, narrative structure, costumes, and the production design. Subsequently, without Yuvan Shankar Raja’s classy background score this movie would be incomplete. And at the same time, Ajith’s chic screen presence, and his top-class performance overshadows the very few negatives of the film. A must-watch.

Ajith, with a trendsetting salt and pepper hairstyle, fits into the character of Vinayak, who strictly has no rules in his life, and goes to any impossible extent for money. Mankatha’s theme music once again proved that Yuvan Shankar Raja is the Yoda master when it comes to arranging a powerful background score alongside multiple hair-raising sequences which even made the general audience go insane. Filled with several twists and turns, Mankatha is a must-watch and deserves the top spot in the Best Movies of Ajith Kumar list.
