Ajeeb Daastaans Review: A Twisted Emotional Ride!

Ajeeb Daastaans on Netflix India, an anthology movie, tries to look at four points from one single frame. The four short stories spanning around forty minutes each are named, Majnu, Khilauna, Geeli Pucchi, Ankahi and unveil the arduous struggles of everyday life. Directors Neeraj Ghaywan, Kayoze Irani, Shashank Khaitan, and Raj Mehta, helmed one of every four stories with Fatima Sana Shaikh, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Shefali Shah playing the lead roles.

Every plot in Ajeeb Daastaans explores the aspects of life being Ajeeb and riddled with conflicts. While Majnu and Ankahi dealt with deep emotions of love and betrayal, Geeli Puchhi and Khilauna were the stories of people trapped in class and caste discrimination.

Ajeeb Daastaans is one of those stories that tries to connect the essence of each plot with one another. What is amusing about each story is that they begin with the idea of a smooth story with a typical ending. But what comes as a surprise is that all four stories successfully manage to engage the audience with a plot twist.

From the trailer of Ajeeb Daastaans, the anthology might come off as a love story trapped in unprecedented challenges, but it does not tell you that reality is darker than fairytales.

Netflix India has managed to create yet another anthology that portrays the modern-day problems of sexuality. It talks about how caste and class can affect your choices in life and how sometimes you can find love but cannot hold on to it. The ray of hope that comes into their lives fails yet again leaving each of them even more vulnerable.

The pursuit to create magic through four short stories is commendable. The magnificent portrayal of each character, especially the cast of Geeli Pucchi and Ankahi, was the limelight of the story.

Ajeeb Daastaans is a representation of the struggles of people that will connect to the audience on a personal level and shed light on things that are not a popular choice for discussion.
