2013 is one of those years, where two movies with the same plot and different cast were perplexed. Hell yes! White House Down deals with the exact plot compared to Olympus Has Fallen. Probably with different ideas and thoughts but overall its slightly the same. Well! in detail, John Cale works as a police officer under the speaker and he badly wants to get into the secret services under the president as it was his dream or an ambition.
His daughter Emily is a nerd who collects information about the president and his activities for her youtube channel, John doesn’t really carry a strong relationship with his daughter and he really wants to get her attention back to him. So he surprises her by taking for a tour to White House and also for his interview.
In the interim, these assassins who already entered the White House bomb a conference hall taking down many innocent people and few others as their hostages. Surrounded with few highly professional snipers around the White House, the army had no option to get into the White House and rescue people. Consequently John takes this enormous decision to save his daughter and eventually the president of United States. The other half of the story deals with the terrorists intentions and few twists that we really see them coming.
Taking about few positives in the movie, it really had few moments where the action is kickass and strong that will really entertain the action movie lovers. Except for few one liners and dramatic scenes, it certainly didn’t seem dull all the time. When it comes to negatives, the movie had got an average CGI, it didn’t really impress me, I’m not disappointed with it either, but it didn’t really smack the impact that an action movie needed. And the dialouge was terrible, few amusing one liners certainly didn’t work as they expected them to be.
When compared to Olympus Has Fallen, White House Down was different, the plot maybe the same, but here we had few unwanted twists and totally with diverse intentions. OHF is more like a crunchy badass film which was genuinely better than WHD when compared in few ways. Both were equally fun when it comes to action but the drama thing made the difference.
Director Roland Emmerich, not a big fan of his movies, although he really tries to entertain people commercially, they don’t really workout at times. The same had repeated here too, the story and the real intent tries to say something spectacular and they end up in a dumb way which was a surprise.
Channing Tatum pulled off a decent performance and proves that he’s not really a bad actor. His iffy role seems slightly appalling, but in the action sequences he carried himself well. Jamie Foxx tries to be the precise thing and he manages it well, even though his slang was slightly witty at times it really didn’t matter for me.
To conclude, White House Down is a fun action popcorn movie, if gunfires and explosions were your thing definitely go check this out. Don’t bother about the entire drama thing though, it really was dumb. Overall the movie was not awful, it may or may not impress you depending upon your mood and taste in movies.
