When we talk about the Upcoming Tamil Movies in 2020, there are quite a few movies to look forward to starting from Rajinikanth’s Darbar. 2020 seems to be a promising year for Tamil Movies, and with all the major superstars trying to work with new directors and experimenting with new concepts, it should be interesting to see everything come to light. But, looking back at 2019, Kollywood had a disappointing year with only a few notable movies like Asuran, Kaithi, etc. So, here’s hoping for a much better 2020, presenting the Best Upcoming Tamil Movies in 2020.

Release Date – April 9
Director – Lokesh Kanagaraj
Starring – Vijay, Vijay Sethupathi

Master is the title of Vijay – Lokesh Kanagaraj (‘Kaithi’ fame) project being produced by newcomer Xavier Britto under the banner XB Film creators. The film also has ‘Makkal Selvan’ Vijay Sethupathi, rumored to be playing the antagonist role and the extremely gorgeous Malavika Mohanan as the female lead. The film is scheduled to be a Summer 2020 release.

2. Indian 2

Release Date – April 14
Director – S. Shankar
Starring – Kamal Haasan

Upcoming Tamil Movies in 2020: Indian 2 is an action-thriller directed by S. Shankar, a sequel to his 1996 film – Indian. The film stars Kamal Haasan and Nedumudi Venu reprising their roles as Senapathy, and Krishnaswamy respectively. Noted actors like Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Vivek, Samuthirakani, and RJ Balaji are playing the supporting roles in the film.

Indian 2 features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander as this will be the first time he collaborates with Kamal Haasan and Shankar. Cinematography and editing were handled by R. Rathnavelu and A. Sreekar Prasad, respectively. Considering the lead actor Kamal Haasan’s recent involvement in mainstream politics, this film would be a great platform for him to preach his ideologies.

3. Soorarai Pottru

Director – Sudha Kongara
Starring – Suriya

Upcoming Tamil Movies in 2020: It was a dull 2019 for Suriya, his two major releases – NGK with Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet, and Kaappaan with Sayyeshaa and Mohanlal failed to create an impact with neither the audience nor the Box Office. His next will be with Sudha Kongara of Irudhi Suttru fame. Suriya has been trying content focused movies lately, and Soorarai Pottru is said to be based on Air Deccan and its founder G. R. Gopinath.

4. Bhoomi

Release Date – May 1
Director – Lakshman
Starring – ‘Jayam’ Ravi, Nidhhi Agerwal

Lakshman who previously directed Romeo & Juliet with ‘Jayam’ Ravi back in 2015, is returning to the director’s chair for Ravi’s 25th film – Bhoomi. The iSmart Shankar lead, and the in-demand actress – Nidhhi Agerwal, will star as the female lead for the film with Sathish in a supporting role.

5. Thalaivi

Director – A. L. Vijay
 Starring – Kangana Ranaut

Starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, Thalaivi is a biographical drama about the life of J. Jayalalithaa, late politician and film actress who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Veteran actor Arvind Swami will be seen portraying the role of MGR as his first look posters are already starting a buzz around the interwebs. With mammoth expectations, Thalaivi can either go south or succeed, we have to wait and see.

Director – Venkat Prabhu
Starring – Silambarasan, Kalyani Priyadarshan

Labelled as A Venkat Prabhu Politics – Maanaadu is a political action-thriller with Silambarasan and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead role. Bharathiraja, who is well-known for his remarkable performances in blockbuster films will be seen in a supporting role accompanied by Premgi Amaren, who is a standard in all Venkat Prabhu movies. Knowing that Prabhu tries diverse concepts every single time, this film should be an interesting watch.

Director – H. Vinoth
Starring – ‘Thala’ Ajith

Upcoming Tamil Movies in 2020: The hit combo of H. Vinoth, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Nirav Shah, Boney Kapoor, and Ajith as director, music director, cinematographer, producer, and lead actor respectively will be back once again with Valimai. After the humongous success of ‘Nerkonda Paarvai,’ for an action thriller. They are aiming to book the Deepavali 2020 slot.

Director – ‘Siruthai’ Siva
Starring – Rajinikanth

Annaatthe is the title of Rajni – ‘Siruthai’ Siva project being produced by Sun Pictures. The film has Prakash Raj, Keerthy Suresh, Meena, Khushboo, Soori, and Sathish playing vital roles. Music is being composed by D. Imman, while Vetri and Ruben handle cinematography and editing, respectively. Personally, I’ve got a bad feeling about this; let’s hope for the best from ‘Siruthai’ Siva.
