Forensic Review: A Solid, Compelling Thriller!

Starring Tovino Thomas and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles, Forensic might be one of the most well-made thrillers in recent times that comprised the right amount of forensics (no pun intended) in solving the psychotic crimes of the killer. Forensic Review

The storyline of the film follows Rithika Xavier IPS, who is assigned to head the investigation of the abduction of a child, which eventually turns into an act of psychotic killing. And on the other hand, Samuel Kaattukkaran joins the investigation team as a forensic expert to decode the darkest secrets and a sophisticated case. As the film progresses, the narrative takes a multitude of twists and turns and slowly reveals the eventful plot.

Anas Khan and Akhil Paul, the duo sitting on the director’s seat handled both the directorial aspects and the narrative of the film so well and delivered a solid, compelling thriller. Akhil Paul had displayed his maturity in handling a thriller drama and has come a long way since his last film – 7th Day. The plot cruised through the first half well and gave an exciting interval bang, and the second half of the film was even more exciting.

Moving on, Tovino Thomas’ exemplary performance influenced the entire storyline, in my opinion. Mamta Mohandas carried her role as the Chief Investigator with a good emotional recital. Yet another remarkable performance came from Reba Monica John, who played the role of an assistant to Tovino Thomas. Saiju Kurup and Renji Panicker call for some special mention with their natural presentations of their characters. Also, there were a bunch of young artists, who had a few major capacity roles in the journey of the psychopath killer, and the entire cast was spot on.

The music and the background score by Jakes Bejoy maintained the tempo of the movie high and accommodated to the theme accurately. Jakes is always the uncrowned king in the territory of thriller movies with the luxury of having quite a few thriller movies under his belt including the latest release, Ayyappanum Koshiyum. Akhil George had handled the camera decently, after his average attempts for many below-average movies. And the editing work by Shameer Muhammad was satisfactory alongside the production design by Dileep Nath, which set up the forensic mood to the movie remarkably.

On the whole, Forensic – The Movie will attract the audience to the theatres primarily because of the fresh new narrative. After the success of Anjaam Pathira earlier this year, Forensic marks the good times of the thriller genre in the Malayalam film industry. The movie is backed with a strong story and powerful performances by Tovino Thomas. A must watch!

‘Forensic’ Movie Rating – 3.75/5 | Grade – B+
