Pogaru Review: Excruciatingly Bad!

Pogaru on AHA is a 2021 Kannada-Telugu bilingual action-drama starring Dhruva Sarja and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles and explores the story of Shiva, a local thug, who sets out on a violent path to serve some justice to the general public after realizing the crimes committed against them.

Making an obvious attempt to appeal more to the commercial audience, Pogaru on AHA gets it all wrong in terms of the story, the execution, the direction, and having some common sense when it comes to reading the room, especially in 2021.

In an era where strong female characters were portrayed on-screen, it is intolerable to sit and watch the writers of this film stoop to such lows in writing scenes that demean women. So much so that the makers went and deleted at least 14 scenes after the movie was released. And there are no consequences for the protagonists’ wild acts in the film as he was written off as a ‘guy with a golden heart.’

On the other side, even the commercial aspects of Pogaru on AHA did not blend that well cause the characters were not well established, the story did not have any sort of appeal, and the supporting ingredients like music, action, drama, and comedy were noticeably subpar. A generic antagonist also did not help the proceedings alongside the overall story, which we’ve already seen a million times before by now.

Overall, although Dhruva Sarja does seem to have the ability to carry a decent film, Pogaru on AHA was excruciatingly bad and would’ve been bashed and battered even if it was released in the 80s or 90s. Stay as far as you can from this film. Watch ‘Pogaru’ on AHA Video here.
