The story of Emily in Paris is about Emily Cooper, who is a marketing professional working in Chicago with a very well planned out life. A sudden turn of events lands her an opportunity to move to Paris for a year, and this transition is what the majority of the story revolves around. She does not know French, and this immediately leads her to be disliked by her new peers. The cultural shocks she witnesses as part of the way the French work is also well crafted on screen. She comes across many new friends in the journey who make her experience various aspects of life, which she had never given much thought to before.
Coming to the cast of Emily in Paris, we have not seen a more well-rounded casting in any of the recent shows. Each actor appears to have been picked up straight from the setting where the show is based, as every performance delivers authenticity. Lucas Bravo, as Gabriel, is the perfect dreamy romantic interest to Emily. His character as a chef and next door charmer sets up for quite a few interesting plotlines in the coming seasons.
Ashley Park plays the character of Mindy, and it is fantastic to watch her perform inside and out. The spark and spunk of her character, as well as the way her struggles are depicted, provide a different perspective to the viewers. And there is a lot of promise for her character for the upcoming seasons. French actress Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu plays the role of Sylvie, Emily’s boss, and she nails her role to perfection. From the initial loathing to the unwanted liking her character registers for Emily is a hilarious turnaround, and the actress does complete justice to the ask.
William Abadie as Antoine is another interesting performer. The multifaceted love angle setup around his character builds mystery and also makes for some magnificent moments in the show. Camille Razat as Camille is stunning in her role, and her sweet personification of the character transforms well into the screen.
There are bits and pieces of Kate Walsh in the show that are delightful since we get to see her onscreen after a long time. Samuel Arnold as Julien and Bruno Gouery as Luc, are adorable in their characters, and we would love to see more of their chemistry with Emily. Jean-Christophe Bouvet as the eccentric fashion designer will impress everyone. His mannerisms and breakdowns reflect the drama behind a fashion star perfectly.
And last but not least is Lily Collins as Emily, who is just a treat to the eyes. Graduating from teenage romances to an adult life story, she most certainly resonates with the new age working women. She carries the show on her shoulders with absolute ease and seems to have found a great genre for herself to build on.

Emily in Paris is superb in its styling, stunning locations, as well as the crisp screenplay. The episodes are not too long to make them boring, and the first season leaves you wanting more and soon. Show creator Darren Star of Sex and the City fame brings his talent and experience in this genre to the fore, and subtle hints of his previous work can be seen through the reels. The visual appeal of the show is top-notch, and we cannot wait for season two to be released. Watch ‘Emily in Paris’ on Netflix here.
