Snow White Review: Yet Another Sterilized Disney Remake!

So this is the infamously “lowest rated movie of all time”; a movie that is supposedly so foul and detestable that it’s considered worse than movies like Disaster Movie (2008) or Movie 43 (2013). What a crime against humanity. To quickly get this out of the way, Snow White (2025) is not even close to the worst movie of all time. Sure, it’s still bad, but there are a couple passable qualities.

Regardless of whether or not you like her as a person, the lead star, Rachel Zegler is solid in the role of “Snow White”. She does what she can to bring personality to the role where it lacks written depth. I think some newly introduced angles to her character do work in this new interpretation, while some others don’t.

Snow White is yet another sterilized Disney remake, this time of the OG Disney film. It’s a different approach to interpreting the original story, but is significantly lacking depth in critical storytelling areas. Snow White’s arc feels underdeveloped in the grand scheme of the film, but it pales in comparison to the secondary characters with hardly any bulk to their personas. The evident reshoots and rewrites are damning to the introduction of two supporting ensembles: the bland band of bandits and the grotesque CGI dwarves.

Love-interest Johnathan shares no chemistry with Snow White, and their relationship takes bold leaps over what needed to be a thought-out arc. Zegler aside, the performances were not quite up to par. Gal Gadot is atrocious as the Evil Queen, giving her all time worst performance of her entire career. Weak performances are highlighted by obnoxious musical stings of poorly written songs (aside from the original songs).

The film also carries on the Disney remake trend of being an ugly eyesore, lacking deliberate cinematography and being washed out with flat lighting. While not truly the worst movie of all time, Snow White, directed by Marc Webb, is another entry to the massive failures Disney has remade in a “modern lens.” It filters out the significance of the original, leaving behind a shell of ineptitude.

‘Snow White’ Rating – 2/5
