Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Doctor’ Review: Undeniably Entertaining!

Doctor Movie Review: With the world returning to normalcy, post the second wave of the corona pandemic, thanks to the worldwide vaccine policy and India’s record vaccination drive. The theatres are opening for the audience to enjoy, and Nelson Dilipkumar has perfectly timed the release of his film, Doctor. Nelson Dilipkumar rose to fame with his debut film Kolamavu Kokkila, and before the release of his second film, Doctor, he won himself a ticket to direct Thalapathy Vijay in Beast.

Doctor has Sivakarthikeyan in the lead with an ensemble cast, including Priyanka Mohan, Yogi Babu, Ilavarasu, Vinay Rai, Redin Kingsley Arun Alexander, Archana Chandoke as the supporting cast. Varun (Sivakarthikeyan), a doctor with the Indian Armed Force, helps his fiance Padmini’s (Priyanka Mohan) find her niece, who goes missing. What occurs throughout their rescue operation forms the remainder of the narrative.

Nelson Dilipkumar shows he is prolific in the dark humour subject as his debut film and Doctor are one of the neatly made dark comedy films I have seen in Tamil Cinema. The strength of this movie lies in the characters which the director have crafted. I loved how the film doesn’t revolve around any one particular character or the hero himself. Instead, each character makes the film what it is. Also, the supporting cast who enact these characters give their one hundred per cent and make Doctor a glee fest.

Although the film suffered several logical inconsistencies, Nelson Dilipkumar managed to brush them under the carpet with his vivid sense of humour. With our chief man Sivakarthikeyan not seen in his usual comic avatar in Doctor, he does what he is best at with a sullen tone and looks and brings humour with a humourless voice. Along with Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley and others, the audience is in for a laughter riot.

Overall, Nelson Dilipkumar offers a full-fledged entertainment package with Doctor. Baring logic, the film is sure to satisfy through and through. With an impressive background score from Anirudh, even performances from the cast and Nelson’s exemplary writing, his ability to make the audience laugh make this film a perfect weekend pick. With a single film, he made fans of both Sivakarthikeyan and Thalapathy Vijay happy.

Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Doctor’ Rating – 3/5
