Tashan

Laugh-Oh-Meter 🍿 88%

Tashan was highly anticipated when it was released as the stylish and slick whodunit by Yashraj Films with a cast decorated with Saif, Kareena, Akshay Kumar, and Anil Kapoor. But the movie fell flat at the box office as it did not strike any chord with the audience despite a great music album. It was also bashed by the critics for a haywire screenplay and story and all in all was a big dud.

The entire production, be it from performances, the storyline, the character graphs, even some of the frames are over the top and some. However, in present times, the bad of the movie is what makes it a good watch with friends. You laugh through the bizarre incidents set up for the characters as well as the majorly overacted performances put in by seasoned actors. The over the top characteristics of the movie make for a cult appreciation of the film. The standout thing which makes us sit through it now will be the unbelievable dialogues by Anil Kapoor’s character. They keep you in splits throughout.

Thank You

Laugh-Oh-Meter 🍿 80%

This film did not carry much promise in the first place considering most of the ensemble cast had not done anything remarkable before this. There is a social message in the movie, but it gets so twisted in the hair-brained screenplay that left the audience scratching their heads. Add to that, weird pairings like Sonam Kapoor and Bobby Deol which does nothing to pique audience interest.

So, you may be wondering, what’s good about this movie then? Our answer to that is, Irrfan Khan!! He steals the show in this turbulent storyline with his unique dry humor. His character is a chauvinist and everything we stand against but, we guess it is also because he performed it in a way that it translates. His banter with Rimi Sen makes for some of the more funny scenes in this film, and that alone makes us sit through the entire ordeal.

Humraaz

Laugh-Oh-Meter 🍿 90%

We should all be thankful to the dynamic duo, Abbas-Mastan, for creating this masterpiece. Humraaz is a story of a man who with the help of his “naive” girlfriend, tries to dupe a rich fellow. This creates a love triangle which leads to many twists and turns. What makes this movie so bad that it is good, are the actors.

From the lead cast to the supporting actors, all have hammed their way through the film. The second half of the movie will knock your socks off and all logic is thrown out of the window. If bad slapstick comedy is not your jam, we truly recommend this cinematic experience to lift your spirits.

Housefull

Laugh-Oh-Meter 🍿 93%

This ‘high-grossing’ multi-starrer franchise, revolving around confusion and a literal full house, will always make you wonder “Am I seriously watching this?” Spanning over four editions, this franchise will make you cringe at everything from dialogues to the songs and definitely the (over)acting. The star cast includes several Bollywood big-wigs out of which Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Chunky Panday remain consistent. However, you will sit through the entire movie, munch on snacks, and enjoy this joke of a film.

The scenarios and dialogue delivery will keep you hooked to the screen. The sole reason that keeps us coming back to this movie is the nonsensical nature that makes a crappy day bearable. The literal good coming out of this movie is Chunky Pandey finding an iconic character. It is the little dialogues like ‘Engleesh Cooker’ and ‘Rahul-Rajesh-Rohan-Raj’ that make this movie memorable for us. Rest we leave it up to you!

Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon

Laugh-Oh-Meter 🍿 95%

Speechless. That’s what this film left us when we saw it for the first time. Never before had we seen something this cringe-worthy on the big screen. The movie promised us three of the most exciting newcomers of the time being cast together and delivered a cacophony of hamming and unwarranted melodrama thrown in your face. If that makes you wonder why it makes it to this list the answer is simple, we watch it again as a game to find one scene that makes sense.

There is no other movie that helps you guess the location like MPKDH as the story is set in a place with a beach, snow clad mountains, and paddy fields to name a few. Sooraj Barjatya made films heavy on tradition up to this one and then decided to just switch to the make-believe genre because this movie will not classify as romance. What gets you through this for home viewing is a fellow movie geek who would love to pull apart the logic of the screenplay with you.

Happy New Year

Laugh-Oh-Meter 🍿 85%

Being big SRK fans, it pains us to include this movie on the list but being honest we’ll go ahead regardless. Directed by Farah Khan, this movie is about a heist that revolves around a dance competition. With over-the-top introductions, unnecessary action sequences, and characters that are walking stereotypes, this movie is BAD. However, these are the ingredients that somehow make this movie enjoyable, especially if you’re watching it with your friends.

A guy wanting to take revenge from his father’s enemy leads to the creation of a motley crew, who further have to compete in an international dance competition. Say What? It doesn’t stop there, added to this concoction is a senseless romance, caricaturish villain, and some needless jingoism. Nothing works in the movie except Abhishek Bachchan’s comic timing. The movie is like soan-papdi on Diwali, you don’t like or want it but you’re gonna eat it anyway.

Awara Paagal Deewana

Laugh-Oh-Meter 🍿 92%

Honestly, this movie is a GEM. Starring Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Johnny Lever, Aftab Shivadsani, and many more, APD is our guilty pleasure. This movie has international gangsters, love-sick couples, and sidekicks running after a bag full of diamonds. Honestly, the script and plotlines are very predictable but this is balanced by the acting.

What works for this movie is Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever. Their comic timing is on the next level, which will make this experience very enjoyable. Furthermore, this movie is succeeded by another edition which also gets an honorary mention in this list. We recommend a drunk-viewing party in this movie with your nearest and dearest.

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

Laugh-Oh-Meter 🍿 72%

The poster of this movie did not give anything away. You get excited by the face-value of it, the vibrant cast, and the scenic locations. However, when the screen starts rolling it just goes downhill. A badly attempted fake fiance themed rom-com this film was a major release in its time. The music of the movie was only able to pull the audiences to the theatres but failed to keep them hooked.

But if you watch the film now at the comfort of your home without a load of an overpriced ticket, it becomes worthy to sit through. The slow pace becomes bearable with the music. The zero effort acting from everyone else and the over the top effort from Amitabh Bachchan are a hilarious contrast. The fact that his character pops up on the screen unexpectedly, just to dance & sing on the streets in a Jack Sparrow getup is hilarious and seriously what’ll get you through this movie.
