Paatal Lok, the new Neo-noir thriller stars Jaideep Ahlawat as the main protagonist with Neeraj Kabi, Abhishek Banerjee, Swastika Mukherjee, and Gul Panag as the strong supporting cast. Drifting around similar boundaries as Netflix’s Sacred Games and Prime Video’s Mirzapur, when it comes to the setting and the overall vibe.

Paatal Lok impresses for the most part, especially with a tight narrative and well-established characters. Regardless of the storyline not ending on a high note, this show still manages to keep you on the edge-of-your-seat the entire time and is an easy binge inside and out.

8. The Family Man 1 & 2

[This excerpt comes from Surya’s ‘The Family Man’ Review]

The Family Man, the new original series from Amazon Prime Video stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role with National-award winner Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi and Neeraj Madhav filling in the supporting cast roles. The storyline of the show follows the journey of Srikant (Bajpayee), a government employee, National Security field agent and a prototypical Indian family man who juggles through a myriad of problems in his daily life.

To sum it up, The Family Man falls under the same category of Amazon Prime shows wherein you notice multiple problems and issues when it comes to the writing, etc. But, in the end, the show keeps you entertained, and is an effortless watch on any given day. Even though ten-episodes feel like a stretch, I’m sure you’ll be able to get through the entire series without any regrets.

7. Made in Heaven

Starring – Sobhita Dhulipala, Arjun Mathur

Genre – Drama

[This excerpt comes from Anushree’s ‘Made in Heaven’ Review]

Created by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, Made in Heaven, is the story of two wedding planners as they seek to establish their business while their own personal lives are completely dysfunctional. The story beautifully navigates through some complex issues (cheating spouses, homosexuality) in the lives of the two main protagonists Tara (Sobhita Dhulipala) and Karan (Arjun Mathur), while dealing with equally complex issues in the various weddings they help organize.

Each episode deals with a different couple getting married and a different social issue. From the practice of dowry and superstitious beliefs to rape to how remarriage is perceived for an older woman, this show uncovers all the holes in the social fabric of our society that are just festering under the surface. Despite the scale of its weddings, the stories at the heart of the show are engaging and relatable for the audience. Made in Heaven is a wonderful take on Indian weddings that is both bizarre and poignant despite some writing flaws.

This series tells the tale of a pained father, doing whatever he could to save the life of his ailing son. With stellar performance from R. Madhavan, the series is a bit let-down by sloppy screenplay and pace in which the show is set with excessive use of filler scenes.

But still, the content was fresh, apart from the cons, it was interesting, thrilling, and the connections set correctly without leaving a loophole. If only the makers concentrated more on the pace and make the characters even more engaging, it would have been even better by the standard of it production works. Nevertheless, it’s an easy one to binge on. – Nirmal Raj

Overall, Inside Edge is an easy binge and is equally entertaining at the same time. – Nirmal Raj
