The Crown, a historical drama on Netflix, is one of the more popular shows on the platform as it gives glimpses of the life of Her Majesty, the Queen. The series explores the challenges and the changing relationships within the royal family. It reveals how the Queen was separated between duty and her individuality and how she has to regularly adapt to the changing times to fit in with the world.

Season 1 of The Crown begins with a young and inexperienced Queen Elizabeth (portrayed brilliantly by Claire Foy) and evolves majestically, giving us a more settled and mature version of the Queen in Season 3 (played by the remarkable Olivia Colman). Tommy is deeply flawed and worthy of his own retribution but also a self-made man who has lost more than he has stolen. This grey area is where this show thrives, forming a group of bold and unapologetic characters entwined within a plot that seems to continually raise the stakes.

Knight’s screenplay is decorated with stunning motifs, Romany folklore, and historical cameos that drive the plot to extremely addicting lengths. This makes Peaky Blinders a show to observe and relish. Heavy and dark, accessible through the eyes of a ruthless leader, tightly holding on to the crown he has sacrificed his sanity to claim.

Peaky Blinders is a highly dynamic series: a once cat-and-mouse game is now a high-stakes political drama, each season more rewarding than the next.
