Kala Review: A Nail-Biting Thriller!

Kala on AHA Video is a 2021 Malayalam psychological thriller directed by Rohith V. S. and starring Tovino Thomas and Sumesh Moor in primary roles with Lal Paul and Divya Pillai portraying the supporting characters. Enjoying a decent theatrical run, the movie’s Malayalam version debuted on Amazon Prime Video on May 24th and the Telugu version on June 4th, 2021.

Kala on AHA is a nail-biting thriller, and the story revolves around Shaji (Tovino Thomas), who gets embroiled in a tussle of human emotion and a day in his life that is unimaginable. Tovino Thomas, as Shaji is just not a character, he has put life into it. His character is sketched in a certain manner that portrays various shades of human emotions.

He plays a role who considers himself an epitome of masculinity which makes him land into a lot of trouble. You can’t see anybody else in that character, and a role is carved just for him. Big salute to him for taking up such a role that the majority of mainstream stars would think twice.

Another titular character in Kala on AHA, Sumesh Moor, nailed his part. He stands equal with Tovino, and you would never feel he is relatively new to the business. Lal and Divya Pillai had limited screen presence, but they put forth good support as needed by the script.

Kala on AHA as soon as it opens gives you an eerie feeling and keeps your inquisitiveness at its peak. The cinematography is brilliant, to say the least. The visual blood bath and graphical representation of the fight are not for fainthearted, but it is the USP of this movie. The negative vibe which has been maintained throughout the narrative is also due to the marvelous sound design Sanu P and editor, Livingston Mathew also needs a mention who keeps the movie engaging for the audience.

Finally, the director, Rohith VS who is the real man behind this cinematic brilliance and needs the biggest applause for taking a subject in such a manner that you would have hardly seen in any Indian cinema. Needless to say, under the production banner of Tovino, this movie is a must-watch in theatres only to get the whole feel of it but let me remind you it has a high amount of violence and bloodshed.
