The Family Man Review: An Effortless Watch!

The Family Man, the new original series from Amazon Prime Video stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role with National-award winner Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi and Neeraj Madhav filling in the supporting cast roles. The storyline of the show follows the journey of Srikant (Bajpayee), a government employee, National Security field agent and a prototypical Indian family man who juggles through a myriad of problems in his daily life.

Eventually, when the country receives a threat from ISIS, the agency appoints Srikanth and his team to track down the alarmist and take him down for greater good. The remaining part of the series follows Srikant’s trials and tribulations and the mental trauma he suffers through to get the job done.

The art of getting your viewers attention and keeping them interested in your narrative through and through will remain as the primary objective for any creator while making a movie or a television show. And Raj & DK, directors and creators of The Family ManÂ succeeded in maintaining a swift pace thoroughly from start to finish. An equal balance is always sustained between Bajpayee’s personal and professional life. And a fair share of twists and turns brought about a decent amount of intrigue to give the next episode a shot.

While the entire series didn’t make me fall asleep, it being ten-episodes long certainly felt like a stretch. Especially when the storyline stalls in a few episodes and forgets about the end goal. However, what makes this show more special is the family-drama displayed inside and out. When it comes to the characters, everyone involved in the family is granted with more than a few moments to shine, be it the wife, the daughter or the son. The internal struggle, their life choices and their customs are incredibly showcased by allotting a decent amount of screentime and therefore justifying the show’s title.

Alongside few surprise cameos, the performances from the complete cast were top-notch. Manoj Bajpayee excels in his multi-layered role as a husband who cannot manage a persevere relationship with his family, and as an NSA agent who often finds himself overwhelmed by the work pressure. He is the heart and soul of the show and does a fantastic job in every scene. Other notable performances comprise Priyamani as the wife of Bajpayee, Sharib Hashmi as his true-blue sidekick and Shreya Dhanwanthary as his associate.

Overall, The Family Man falls under the same category of Amazon Prime shows wherein you notice multiple problems and issues when it comes to the writing, etc. But, in the end, the show keeps you entertained, and is an effortless watch on any given day. Even though ten-episodes feel like a stretch, I’m sure you’ll be able to get through the entire series without any regrets.
