Upcoming Bollywood Movies to Look Forward to in 2019

Five months into 2019, we’ve only witnessed a handful of good bollywood movies from Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy to Sujoy Ghosh’s Badla. With over six months left in the calendar year, they’re many movies which will be sure-shot hits and many more which might surprise you with the amount of quality and charm. So, here is the long list of Bollywood movies that you should definitely look forward to for the rest of 2019.


The Promising Movies of 2019
Kabir Singh

Director – Sandeep Reddy Vanga
Starring – Shahid Kapoor, Kiara Advani
Release Date – June 21

The remake of the 2017 blockbuster Telugu film, Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh will without a doubt mesmerize the Hindi speaking audience with the tone, dialogues, lead actor’s characterization and the unapologetically authentic storyline. Telangana’s own Sandeep Reddy Vanga is a no-nonsense storyteller, and his perspective of portraying an unconventional love story will, in fact, be brand new and unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.


Article 15

Director – Anubhav Sinha
Starring – Ayushmann Khurrana, Isha Talwar
Release Date – June 28

Anubhav Sinha found his niche with realistic drama films and his previous film ‘Mulk‘ was a proven success and is undoubtedly one of the best movies of last year. Starring “your friendly neighbourhood protagonist”, Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role, Article 15, similar to the Taapsee Pannu and Rishi Kapoor starrer will transact with a wide variety of sensitive topics like race, caste and religion and will be a captivating narrative to sit through.


Jhund

Director – Nagraj Manjule
Starring – Amitabh Bachchan
Release Date – September 20

The Marathi blockbuster Sairat fame Nagraj Manjule’s debut Bollywood film has all the right ingredients of becoming a sleeper success. It got the Superstar of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role and is based on the life of Vijay Barse, founder of Slum Soccer. Judging by the tone and the level-headed vibe of Sairat, Jhund will undoubtedly be more robust in its approach and will not be Bollywoodized to manipulate fake reactions.


The Sky Is Pink

Director – Shonali Bose
Starring – Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar
Release Date – October 11

Shonali’s Bose’s previous film Margarita with a Straw won all the critical acclaim and is a tremendous success in the indie film community. However, that’s not the only reason why The Sky is Pink will become one of the most superior movies of 2019, it also serves as a comeback for Priyanka Chopra after three-long years as she stars and is also producing the film under her banner. Based on a real-life story, it should be interesting to watch how adequately with all the heavyweight backup behind it.
