Top 8 Movies Releasing in June 2019

Moving past May 2019, which is largely a disappointing month for movies clustered with failures like Student of the Year 2: An Easily Forgettable Dud and Aladdin: An Overproduced Debacle, June seems to be the actual kick-off for the summer movie season with possible blockbusters waiting to release every single week. So, here are the Top 8 Movies Releasing in June 2019 from English, Hindi and Tamil languages you should be looking forward to with open eyes.

8. Kolaiyuthir Kaalam

Release Date – June 14, 2019
Cast – Nayanthara, Prathap Pothen
Director – Chakri Toleti

Kolaiyuthir Kaalam will be ‘Lady Superstar’ Nayanthara’s second solo release of this year after Airaa. Directed by Chakri Toleti (of Unnai Pol Oruvan fame), it is touted to be a horror film. It would be interesting to note that, many directors prefer Nayanthara as the lead for Horror or mystery genre films. If you take a look at the list of solo lead movies by Nayanthara, she has featured in horror genre the most, Maya, Dora to quote some example.

7. Game Over

Release Date – June 14, 2019
Cast – Tapsee Panu
Director – Ashwin Saravanan

Taapsee Pannu, who has been very much active in Bollywood and tasting success with Badla, will be returning to Tamil Cinema Industry after three long years. Very few actresses get to act in as the main lead in Tamil cinema and Taapsee gets the honor to join the elite club with Nayanthara and Trisha. Game Over will be a horror genre film, being directed by Ashwin Saravanan and will be released also in Telugu and Hindi, considering her market in Hindi film industry.

6. Dark Phoenix

Release Date – June 7, 2019
Cast – Sophie Turner, Jessica Chastain
Director – Simon Kinberg

The X-Men franchise hit a low-point with the disappointing Apocalypse, a massive letdown after finding a new soul with the path-breaking Days of Future Past. The first genuine superhero franchise launched way before comic book movies became a part of our cultural tapestry, it’s not too much to ask for a proper send off to these beloved characters who have been around for two decades, a world that gave us Wolverine. Marvel’s absolute domination is imminent, but it will be gratifying to watch Fox deliver to the fans, one last time.

5. Bharat

Release Date – June 5, 2019
Cast – Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif
Director – Ali Abbas Zafar

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, and made on a budget of 100 crores, Bharat is a period-drama based on the South Korean film ‘’Ode to My father”. The film will release on June 5th, on the occasion of Eid-Al-Fitr. Bharat is about the journey of a man and a nation together, how a man does keep up his promise that he made to his father, despite life throwing him new challenges at him.

4. Men in Black: International

Release Date – June 17, 2019
Cast – Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson
Director – F. Gary Gray

Reuniting the Thor: Ragnarok couple, Hemsworth and Thompson, MIB: International will, of course, be a brand new spin on the franchise when compared to the previous films. With the dynamic chemistry between the two lead stars, this film carries the same amount of stupefied humor and the crazy ridiculous fun for which the franchise is known for. F. Gary Gray as the director only adds more appeal to the film, and hopefully, it will not disappoint.

3. Toy Story 4

Release Date – June 21, 2019
Cast – Various
Director – Josh Cooley

Toy Story is one of the most successful franchises from Pixar Animation, and this sequel is highly awaited. There are a few new additions to our favourite group of toys like Forky, Ducky, and Bunny, with all the old favorites like Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bo Peep, Rex, Slinky. Perhaps most importantly, Mr and Mrs Potato Head will return too with Mr Potato Head being voiced again by the Late great Don Rickles, although it’s unclear how Don Rickles’s voice will be recreated. The franchise has always hit the right notes with its emotional and poignant look at the role toys play in a child’s life, Can Toy story 4 follow in the footsteps of its predecessors?

2. Kabir Singh

Release Date – June 21, 2019
Cast – Shahid Kapoor, Kiara Advani
Director – Sandeep Reddy Vanga

The remake of the 2017 blockbuster Telugu film, Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh will without a doubt mesmerize the Hindi speaking audience with the tone, dialogues, lead actor’s characterization and the unapologetically authentic storyline. Telangana’s own Sandeep Reddy Vanga is a no-nonsense storyteller, and his perspective of portraying an unconventional love story will, in fact, be brand new and unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.

1. Annabelle Comes Home

Release Date – June 28, 2019
Cast – Madison Iseman, Mckenna Grace
Director – Gary Dauberman

Serving as the sequel for the 2014 and 2017 box-office hits Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation, the premise of Annabelle Comes Home (included in our Top 11 Horror Movies You Can’t-Miss in 2019 list) is appealing. Here’s the pitch:

“Ed and Lorraine Warren bring the possessed doll to the locked artefacts room in their home, placing her “safety” behind sacred glass and enlisting a priest’s holy blessing. But an unholy night of horror awaits as Annabelle awakens the evil spirits in the room, who all set their sights on a new target.” [Source and Writing Credits: Wikipedia]

Obviously, we are getting that Night at the Museum vibe added to the movie. Also, Gary Dauberman seems to be a worthy fit as the director considering his past experience working as a writer for the Annabelle and IT franchises.
