Vasan Bala, the director of the 2019 action-comedy, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota made all the right noises with his unorthodox film, an entertainer, received tremendously by the audience. The meta humor displayed in MKDH, and the capability to try something different will positively help Vasan Bala in Bollywood to stand out from the rest. Hopefully, he continues making diverse movies which will move Hindi Film Industry forward.
A long-time assistant to Prakash Jha, Alankrita Shrivastava made her directorial debut with the 2011 film, Turning 30 with Gul Panag in the lead role. But, years later, her first critical success was made possible through Lipstick Under My Burkha which broke boundaries and set new standards in Indian Cinema. Alankrita also directed two episodes in the Amazon Prime Original, Made in Heaven, and is currently working on a feature with Balaji Motion Pictures called Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare. Going by her brief directorial work, Alankrita is well-bred to write and direct strong female characters, and I hope she continues to do the same.

Aditya Dhar made a tremendous impact in Bollywood with his first film, Uri: The Surgical Strike, a blockbuster which no one saw it coming. One of the unique attributes which made Uri special were the action scenes that are shot, choreographed and presented splendidly on-screen. His next film will base on the mythological character, Ashwatthama, and he will re-unite with Vicky Kaushal for a 2020 release.
Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari made her Bollywood debut with the critically acclaimed comedy-drama, Nil Battey Sannata, starring Swara Bhaskar in the lead role. Soon after the critical success of her first film, Ashwiny made her mark with the 2017 romantic comedy, Bareilly Ki Barfi, which won both critical and commercial success. Her upcoming release in the year 2020 will be a sports comedy with Kangana Ranaut in the lead role called Panga. And she will undoubtedly deliver yet again for the third time in a row.

Debuted with the 2018 smash hit, Stree, a horror-comedy starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles, Amar Kaushik seems to have all the tools to become a competent filmmaker. In Stree, he distinctly showcased his ability to entertain the audience and at the same time, getting them involved in the storyline. Amar’s upcoming film, Bala, is a black comedy and stars Ayushmann Khurana and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. It should be interesting to watch him explore another sub-genre in comedy and present the movie uniquely and diversely.
