Top 5 Reasons Why Bharat Will Succeed Commercially

A long weekend is just around the corner and it brings with it one of the biggest releases of the year – Bharat starring Salman Khan in the lead role. There is a lot of buzz around the movie and there are no big Hindi movies being released with Bharat on the 5th and the week after as well. Here are Top 5 Reasons why we think Bharat will be a hit at the box office irrespective of its performance with the critics.

5. Holiday Weekend

Bharat is releasing on Thursday, June 5th 2019 which is the beginning of a long holiday weekend and it is the perfect launchpad for this film. All the major stars of the Hindi Movie Industry have taken to releasing their movies on long festive weekends to capitalize on this very trend of people out to celebrate the festival. The extreme summer heat will also mean that holiday revelers would prefer an air condition-ed movie theater to any outdoor activity.

4. The Fan Base

Salman Khan has over the years built up a major fan following that is very vocal on social media and lets their voices known at the box office with their wallets. Even when some major productions with big names like Zero and Thugs of Hindostan have failed to perform, Salman Khan has churned out hits (barring Tubelight). Even Race 3, the last Salman Khan release, was a success despite its negative critical reviews.

3. Cliched Bollywood Masala Movie

From the trailers, Bharat has come across as a typical Bollywood movie. The songs are catchy (if extremely generic), there is plenty of action and there is even a cliched romance between the leads – basically all the ingredients that make a Masala Bollywood movie a hit outside the multiplexes and metro cities.

2. Word of Mouth Publicity

In the recent past, big budget movies have failed to perform financially because of negative word of mouth publicity (Zero, Thugs of Hindostan). However, Bharat will have an advantage because it will do most of its business on the 4 day opening weekend – hence negating most of the word of mouth publicity if it turns out to be negative.

1. No Competition at the Box Office

There are no major Hindi movie releases in the next 2 weeks to give competition to Bharat. De De Pyar De will enter its fourth weekend and the next big release, Kabir Singh won’t release until June 21st 2019. There are some releases on the week of June 14th but they are not high profile enough. Even on the English movie front, the only release is X-Men: Dark Phoenix which might draw some attention in the multiplexes but not in the small city, single screen theatres which is where Bharat will really do good business.

For the reasons detailed above, we expect Salman Khan’s Bharat to do really well this weekend. Do you agree with our assessment? Please let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
