As we’re cruising past the month of February, it’s time to preview what the Magical month of March has got in store for us. This time we made a decision to do something different compared to our regular previews that we do every month, and combine all four industries to make one single list for all movies releasing next month. But, we have to make a choice and omit a few good releases like Luka Chuppi, Sonchiriya, Photograph, Dumbo (that we’re also looking forward to) out from the list only because they’re not higher up on our list. Nonetheless, here are the Top 5 (Indian) Movies Releasing in March 2019.
Release Date – 28 March, 2019
Cast – Nayanthara, Kalaiarasan, Yogi Babu
Sarjun KM is a young director who gained fame with his controversial short film Lakshmi. He made his directorial debut with Echarikkai starring Guru Somasundaram. Airaa is touted to be a horror thriller with ‘Lady Superstar’ Nayanthara in the lead. This is yet another female-centric film for Nayanthara. Kolamaavu Kokila which released last year with Nayanthara playing the titular role went on to become the highest grossing heroine-led film in Tamil Cinema. This is why she is referred to as ‘Lady Superstar’ and producers continue to sign her for more female-centric films.
Release Date – 8 March, 2019
Cast – Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan
Badla (2019) serves as the long-awaited reunion for Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan who played the lead roles in the 2016 smash hit Pink. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, this film as far as anyone could tell has all the twists and turns that we digested in Sujoy’s previous features namely the 2012 movie Kahaani starring Vidya Balan. Shot at picturesque locations, the promos of the film look promising as the YouTube numbers are already edging at the 25M mark within one week and I’m rooting for everyone in the movie. So, fingers crossed!
Release Date – 21 March, 2019
Cast – Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra
Akshay Kumar, who always has plenty of films in his backpack, is all set to turn back the pages of history books in an attempt to tell the story of the bravest battle ever fought. Kesari, which also stars Parineeti Chopra in the lead role and directed by Anurag Singh is a war film which depicts the story of Havildar Ishar Singh who participated in the Battle of Saragarhi where an army of 21 Sikhs fought against 10,000 Afghans in 1897.
Release Date – March 8, 2019
Starring – Brie Larson and Jude Law
From posing as a bold female empowering film to being the pioneer of the new era in MCU, the trailer has all the elements of a blockbuster superhero movie. With many questions and theories posing after The Infinity War, Captain Marvel brings out the past of our beloved Nick Fury and also weaves an independent link to The Endgame.(Don’t forget Goose here!) The movie is certain to leave us starstruck just like any other Marvel movie would.
Release Date – March 29, 2019
Cast: Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil and Samantha Akkineni
Vijay Sethupathi was on a roll last year with seven movies releasing and he had already opened his account this year with Petta. Super Deluxe is the second directorial feature of Thiagarajan Kumararaja whose debut Aaranya Kaandam was critically acclaimed and earned ‘cult’ status. In Super Deluxe, the director roped in stellar performers including Samantha Akkineni, Myskkin, Ramya Krishnan and what makes me anticipate even more for the film is Vijay Sethupathi, who is portraying a different character, as a transgender.
