Chupke Chupke (1975)

Starring – Dharmendra & Amitabh Bachchan
Director – Hrishikesh Mukherjee

Hrishikesh Mukherjee was the King of Comedies and entertaining stories back in the day. Chupke Chupke also gifted us with the lead pair, Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan at their career-best. However, rumours are floating around about the remake of this film and Rajkummar Rao playing the role of Dharmendra. I hope they don’t ruin a classic.

Gol Maal (1979)

Starring – Amol Palekar, Bindiya Goswami
Director – Hrishikesh Mukherjee

Hrishikesh Mukherjee, 40 years ago back fought the system not violently, but with his lighthearted movies in his signature style. A simple story revolving around fake identities is a pure laugh riot and is still the Best Film made on a middle-class Indian. Gol Maal is a movie with the characters who are lying, a comedy of confusion, and a joyful end. It is beauty in its purest form.

Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

Starring – Aamir Khan & Salman Khan
Director – Rajkumar Santoshi

The iconic duo of ‘Khans,’ we are dying to see them share the screen again because when they do, magic is bound to happen, similar to this classic. Comedy as its foremost genre, this movie kills us with bouts of laughter after every scene and every dialogue. Aila! and Ui Ma! became synonymous to Aamir Khan and Salman Khan who use this as a prefix to every dialogue. Limericks, wittiness, humor oozes throughout the movie and will never make you feel bored. It is a family entertainer with breezy humor which can brighten your day, any time.

Chachi 420 (1997)

Starring – Kamal Haasan, Tabu
Director – Kamal Haasan

Rewatchable Bollywood Movies: Kamal Haasan as Chachi is one of the best-cross-dressed characters Bollywood has ever put-together on-screen. Not just for slapstick comedy, but, the movie also had an amusing story associated with it like Amrish Puri falling in love with Lakshmi, played by Kamal Haasan.

Hera Pheri (2000)

Starring – Various
Director – Priyadarshan

Following the footsteps of Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Priyadarshan carried his league of making comedy films. Hera Pheri was the best of the lot. Believe it or not, but, it’s been 19 years since the release of Hera Pheri. And without a doubt, the film is just as funny as it was when it first released. From our beloved Babu Bhaiya’s ‘Chaamaila’ to the ever-entertaining ‘Devi Prasad Hai?’ this movie left no stones unturned to make us laugh like a kid. Not to forget, Paresh Rawal was the gem to the film.

Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

Starring – Aamir, Saif & Akshaye
Director – Farhan Akhtar

An epic tale about three inseparable childhood buddies who are just out of their colleges, the people who made Goa uber cool for all of us. The boys driving from Mumbai to Goa was one trip we still envy. Farhan Akhtar made his directorial debut with this critically acclaimed movie which taught us a lot of different things on many levels. The characters in it were flawed and genuinely real as Dil Chahta Hai forever changed the face of Indian cinema. One of the most Rewatchable Bollywood Movies.

Munna Bhai MBBS (2003)

Starring – Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi
Director – Rajkumar Hirani

A tale of classic bromance, the movie which made Munna and Circuit household names along with Doctor Asthana and his epic laugh. A story about the college life of a medical student or probably not, because who treats a patient with a ‘Jaadu ki Jhappi?’ Screwed on many levels yet funny on every bit, Munna Bhai MBBS is that one trip which will cheer you up every time.

Garam Masala (2005)

Starring – Akshay Kumar & John Abraham
Director – Priyadarshan

Rewatchable Bollywood Movies: Being wrong in every manner and equally funny Garam Masala is a film about how a man has four girlfriends without getting caught with the help of his housemaid and a friend. The friend played by John Abraham also tries to steal one of his girlfriends. Garam Masala is one of the firsts by Akshay-John duo.

Iqbal (2005)

Starring – Naseeruddin Shah, Shreyas Talpade
Director – Nagesh Kukunoor

If you still think that a dumb and a deaf lead cannot carry a movie, then my friend you haven’t watched Iqbal yet. For us millennials, it was a motivational coming of age sports drama because of ‘Kuch paane ki ho aas aas, Koi arman ho Jo khas khas…’ You have sung it, right? In a cricket-loving country, watching a guy called Iqbal who grows up to eat, sleep and live cricket is a pure treat to the eyes. The story does not have any twist and turns. It is to Kukunoor’s credit that he still holds the audience interest right down to the last ball.

Golmaal Fun Unlimited (2006)

Starring – Various
Director – Rohit Shetty

Golmaal has lost its charm, and story with multiple sequels but the first one in the franchise still cracks us up with its silly and slapstick humour. As the title of the film suggests, the story is about a Golmaal four friends are performing on an old blind couple which will leave you in splits. One of the most Rewatchable Bollywood Movies.

Jab We Met (2007)

Starring – Shahid Kapoor & Kareena Kapoor
Director – Imtiaz Ali

Hands-down, Jab We Met is one of the best Romantic-Comedies in Bollywood. The movie beautifully depicts what love means to different people and how you should give your happiness the utmost priority. With Aditya and Geet on screen, everything is perfect and yes, also funny.

Welcome (2007)

Starring – Various
Director – Anees Bazmee

Welcome might not have a clear-cut plot, but, the star cast overshadowed everything with their stupefying comic shots and timing, which were the primary attributes that kept us hooked. But sadly, the sequel wasn’t able to provide as many laughs and was another addition to a bunch of ridiculous comedies. One of the most Rewatchable Bollywood Movies.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008)

Starring – Imran Khan, Genelia D’Souza
Director – Abbas Tyrewala

A story which broke stereotypes on many levels in a male-dominated world. Jai was the guy away from all the violence or probably afraid of it and truly madly in love with Aditi. The movie strengthened the concept of friendship goals and made nicknames like ‘Meow’ and ‘Rats’ popular. It also discussed two mentally disturbed people, Amit and Meghna and beautifully presented their perspective.

3 Idiots (2009)

Starring – Aamir Khan, Madhavan & Sharman Joshi
Director – Rajkumar Hirani

Showcasing the harsh reality of engineering students, 3 Idiots also hit hard on our forever flawed education system. A story about running behind knowledge and not success, 3 Idiots made us laugh on our shortcomings. Chatur and Virus are the characters who will stay in our heart for a long time.

Wake Up Sid! (2009)

Starring – Ranbir Kapoor & Konkona Sen Sharma
Director – Ayan Mukerji

Wake Up Sid! is a movie we related to a lot growing up in our early 20s. A coming-of-age drama which questioned our life goals on many verticals. It will help you realize your underfed talent/passion and will force you to pursue it. It can make you smile throughout the runtime and the song Iktara is like a cherry on the top. One of the most Rewatchable Bollywood Movies.

Udaan (2010)

Starring – Rajat Barmecha, Ronit Roy
Director – Vikramaditya Motwane

If a filmmaker like Anurag Kashyap is writing it, it has to be a realistic movie. Udaan is a story of a young boy who is forced to live with his oppressive father and a half-brother after being expelled from boarding school. The movie ends on the note of hardship with the boy determined to make it big, and it defines naked realism. It looks authentic, easy to relate and has an impressive larger-than-life quality to it.

Delhi Belly (2011)

Starring – Imran Khan, Vir Das, Kunaal Roy
Director – Abhinay Deo

Delhi Belly was India’s first dark comedy which was appreciated by the audiences. Bollywood usually doesn’t make such kind of satirical films. It was refreshing for that time. An embarrassing story I remember as a kid is me singing ‘Dk Bose!’ loudly on a family trip. Yes! It is true. Thanks to the beautiful soundtrack by Ram Sampath! One of the most Rewatchable Bollywood Movies.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

Starring – Hrithik, Abhay & Farhan
Director – Zoya Akhtar

The 20s and 30s are the ages when you have time and health to explore the world. But do we ever leave our jobs? Do we ever leave all the tensions and just travel? This movie is all about it because Laila once said ‘Seize the day my friend — Pehle is din ko poori tarah jiyo, phir challis ke bare mein sochna.’ Zoya Akhtar is one of the best when it comes to speaking with her scenes in the film (without dialogues). One of the best examples of her brilliant direction is the luggage packing scene at the start of the movie. Without any dialogue, she described her characters by their luggage packing styles.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

Starring – Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone
Director – Ayan Mukerji

It is a happy-go story beautifully weaved into two separate-yet-defining times in the lives of its characters. First, when they are standing on the crossroads of multiple decisions that will shape who and what they will become. And second, in their late-twenties when they meet after years again with a bundle of fulfilled or unfulfilled dreams on a crossroad of another set this time. I can bet that this movie can set your mood up anytime.

Queen (2014)

Starring – Kangana Ranaut, Lisa Haydon
Director – Vikas Bahl

Starring Kangana Ranaut and Lisa Haydon, Queen is a unique ride filled with bliss, passion, guiltlessness and fearlessness. Accompanied by scenic shots and stirring background music, it is delightful and moving for the most part. Primarily, Kangana gives one of her career-best performance. However, the screenplay was slightly unbalanced, but you shouldn’t miss watching this very delightful movie. One of the most Rewatchable Bollywood Movies.

Aditi is yet another artist stuck in the body of an IT professional. Books, dark humor and twisted stories. Her life revolves around it, and some might even say that she's blunt, and even agree that she is the fakest real person they have ever met. She is loving and exploring the unexplored side of cinema and hopes that people will watch through her eyes.
