Release Date – 10 May, 2019
Cast – Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria, Ananya Pandey
Director – Punit Malhotra
Let’s get the obvious one out-of-the-way first. Introduced as the sequel to the 2012 hit film Student of the Year, SOTY 2 will once again bring together a brand new cast with Tiger “High Flying” Shroff as the main lead. Judging by the trailer, this film already looks 10-times more ridiculous when compared to it’s prequel with Shroff performing his favorite physics-defying kicks and stunts in slow motion. The cringeworthy dialogues, comparable premise, a picturesque college campus, hot girls and the dreary love-triangle, everything appears to follow the same exact foot steps as the 2012 film and will probably be an underwhelming film which will enjoy a good opening weekend because of the hype.
Release Date – 17 May, 2019
Cast – Sivakarthikeyan, Nayanthara
Director – M. Rajesh
Hot on the heels of Seema Raja, Sivakarthikeyan teams up with M. Rajesh, who is well known for his list of comical movies from All in All Azhagu Raja to VSOP. Although the trailer doesn’t seem to hint anything new from the combo, we’re sure that this will be another routine commercial film in which Sivakarthikeyan would once again glorify stalking.
Release Date – 24 May, 2019
Starring – Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott
Director – Guy Ritchie
A live action version of the hugely popular 1992 animated movie, Aladdin is one of Disney’s more risky projects this year especially since the widespread disapproval that the trailer received. There will be inevitable comparisons between Will Smith as Genie and the Late Robin Williams, who voiced Genie in the original and whose genius made that movie so memorable for kids and adults alike. With Guy Ritchie at the helm and all the controversy surrounding the whitewashing of a middle eastern story, Aladdin is in the news for all the wrong reasons but how will it fare at the box office?
Release Date – 10 May, 2019
Cast – Vishal, Rashi Khanna
Director – Venkat Mohan
Official remake of the blockbuster Telugu film, Temper (also remade in Bollywood as Simmba featuring Ranveer Singh as the cop). Ayogya stars Vishal in the lead role with a promising ensemble of supporting actors. Apart from the sensible social message, which is the heart and soul of the film. It should be interesting to watch how Vishal does justice to the power packed attitude-driven role for which Jr. NTR was widely appreciated in the original.
Release Date – 10 May, 2019
Cast – Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith
Director – Rob Letterman
Detective Pikachu will be the first live-action film in the coveted Pokémon franchise. Starring Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, the movie created plenty of buzz already with many appreciating the film’s premise, tone and the silly humour. Detective Pikachu will open two weeks after Avengers: Endgame and will look forward to scoring a decent box-office success solely because of the future of the live-action franchise.

Director – Chad Stahelski
Similar to the Taken franchise, John Wick is well-known property among the action movie fans largely because of the charismatic lead star, Keanu Reeves and the breathtaking action scenes. So far, the promos of Chapter 3 promise the same amount of intrigue and entertainment with a higher and a grander production scale. Hoping that this is the series finale, Parabellum is without a doubt one of the most anticipated movies of this Summer.

Nandha Gopalan Kumaran / Nandha Gopala Krishna, will be Suriya’s first release of 2019 and he teams up with the talented Selvaraghavan (Aayirathil Oruvan fame), as he returns back to the director’s seat after six long years. This movie already had set high expectations, primarily because of the background score and songs as the stellar combo of Yuvan – Selvaraghavan unite after eleven years after Yaaradi Nee Mohini.

Release Date – 9 May, 2019
Cast – Mahesh Babu, Pooja Hegde
Director – Vamsi Paidipally
Amidst gigantic hype and sky-high expectations, Super Star Mahesh Babu’s upcoming film, Maharshi, is and will remain the talk of the town for a copious amount of reasons, especially, because of the massive 100 crore budget and the three-producer combo. Vamsi Paidipally, the man behind 2016’s feel-good film Oopiri, has a lot riding on his shoulders as the movie did not look or feel any different when compared to Mahesh Babu’s previous films namely Bharath Ane Nenu and Srimanthudu.
Release Date – May 31
Cast – Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown
Director – Michael Dougherty
Here comes The Big Dog, King of the Monsters will be the 35th film in the Godzilla film franchise, and the sequel to the 2014 summer hit Godzilla and stars a brand new cast featuring Kyle Chandler and Vera Farmiga. The early trailers suggest a more action-packed narrative when compared to the previous film. However, the most entertaining element of this movie should be the return of Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah who will ultimately battle Godzilla. King of the Monsters is one movie you do not want to miss watching in the theaters.
