The Place Beyond the Pines is a 2012 American crime drama film directed by Derek Cianfrance, written by Cianfrance, Ben Coccio, and Darius Marder. It stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, and Ray Liotta in the lead roles and the film reunites Cianfrance and Gosling, who worked together on 2010’s Blue Valentine. The entire storyline deals with sensitive issues, it enlightens how the silly and foremost things we do affect the lives of our loved ones subsequently. That’s just so real, and heartfelt and hits you hard after watching the movie.

The characters in the movie were pragmatic and lifelike. Ryan Gosling gives a vivid performance. He lived in his stunt rider character; filled up with a bunch of emotions and feelings in him. Bradley Cooper delivered a realistic performance. After watching him perform in a series of comedic roles this is a pure contrast and explored a whole new performer in him. The movie contracted with his character the most, and he delivered justice.
Eva Mendes’ role and her performance was the best I’ve seen from her in years. She had the responsibilities and trauma to open up as she mostly transacts with emotional things through her face, which was close to the heart. Ben Mendelsohn was good in his supporting role with Gosling and he carried out all the things very well on the move.
Director and also the co-writer Derek Cianfrance was exceptional with his work. He portrayed the emotions well especially the long duration takes, he imparted freedom to the actors to go deep into the subject and sensibly depict them. Few scenes were so realistic and we clearly feel and relate to everything happening on-screen.
Have to point out the cinematography of the movie which was lively at times. The scenes related to Gosling motorcycle stunts were shot well and in an authentic way which was needed when you want to render the perfect feel. Finally, The Place Beyond The Pines is a terrific movie with all the performances and the storyline. It certainly leaves you thinking about it for a while after you complete watching.
