Sex Education 3 Review: A Delightful Show That Keeps Getting Better!

Three seasons deep, Sex Education on Netflix keeps getting better, from the writing to the characters and everything beyond. If you think about it, this rarely happens in this modern era of television, where studios attempt to prolong the show for a few extra seasons to keep the client subscribed to their platform and so on. Nonetheless, we as viewers are just fortunate enough to be able to witness this show grow, which, in my opinion, will go on to become a modern-day classic.

So, Sex Education 3 begins with Maeve Wiley not receiving that heartfelt voicemail, Otis Milburn spending his summer with Ruby as they start to develop feelings for each other. And the rest having an equal amount of fun during their holidays and prepping for their final year of school.

But, things and the entire vibe drastically change when Hope (Jemima Kirke) takes charge as the new Headteacher. And the remainder of the season showcases how everyone gets adjusted to the rules and, in the process, finds their own voice to fight for what’s right.

What shines bright in Sex Education 3 is that the creator, Laurie Nunn, and her team of writers get real creative in navigating the narrative from start to finish. I always find myself complaining or disappointed about new-age writers not being innovative enough to tell an age-old story, and this show sets a magnificent precedent of how to tweak things in a meaningful way rather than going for the obvious conclusion.

Like I said at the beginning of my review, this series doesn’t attempt to drag plot points for the sake of suspense and instead moves quickly without getting too comfortable and making the narrative stall unnecessarily.

Moreover, rather than the overall story, we get to see a ton of character progression in Sex Education 3, which includes well-thought-out, clever, and incredibly written dialogue, conversations, and so much more. From the incredibly complex mindset of teenagers to discussing the importance of mental health, gender neutrality, and sex-positivity, Laurie Nunn takes a bunch of relevant talking points and presents them elegantly throughout the show without a hitch.

Moving on to the characters, this time around, we get to see new pair-ups in the form of Otis and Ruby, Maeve and Issac, Eric and Adam, and more, and the most important thing is there are no bad characters in the show. Everyone carries some importance, emotion, and posses that relatability factor that will make you cheer for them. The performances are, as usual, incredible and I have no complaints.

Overall, Sex Education 3, to put it in simple words, is a happy and positive show to watch. There is no unnecessary soap-opera type drama, carries a vibrant and relaxing vibe inside and out (shout out to the super-talented art and costume department), and perfectly reflects the mindset and the thinking of today’s young adults. The charming characters and the well-written teleplay were just added bonuses.
