Severance S2 Review: Monumental & Artistically Magnificent!

The first season of Severance is one of the few 10/10 ratings I have ever given. From the start, this series proved itself as one of the most captivating and creative pieces of storytelling media I have watched in my entire life. After waiting three long years for the second season, my excitement was unmatched.

Severance is a series that is mysterious and important, and S2 is very much the epitome of this. Severance continues bigger and more shocking than ever, continuously unraveling its plot and presenting new angles to its narrative and characters. As the world beyond Lumon expands, I appreciated how the story injects complexity to the relationship between the outies and innies, predominantly through Mark.

Supporting characters like Helly R, Dylan, and Irving are given similarly enticing direction, while I also really appreciated the development of Mr. Milchick. It becomes a new conflict that builds upon the previously established plotlines, while reinforcing effective drama and emotional appeal. And of course, the finale is perfectly built up to be one of the most beautiful yet devastating season finales of television.

S2 of Severance surges with talent and effort from the cast and crew. Immense credit is owed to Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson on their creative coordination of every aspect of this show. Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillmen, Dichen Lachmen, and every actor in this show give truly exceptional performances.

The cinematography from Jessica Lee Gange is some of the best I have ever seen. A mix of genius editing and lighting makes scenes evoke more meaning towards the story. The precision of the production design goes above and beyond to bring the oppressive Lumon facility to life. On all cylinders, this show fires off with pinpoint accuracy. On it’s current trajectory following the excellence of S2, I am confident that Severance has a shot at becoming my favorite TV series’ of all time, as it is a monumental and artistically magnificent opus of storytelling.

‘Severance S2’ Rating – 5/5
