Sacred Games is a nationwide phenomenon. From the stellar cast (Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte)to a skilled director duo (Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap) and a remarkable premise, it enthralled the viewers and kept them guessing as S1 ended with a giant cliffhanger. Season 2 of Sacred Games is premiering on August 15 and has a few new cast members and what seems like a more exciting and a suspense-filled narrative. With quite a few questions floating around the interwebs, here is a curated list of the top questions we want to be answered in Season 2.
*Spoiler Ahead*
Now, the character of Zoya Mishra portrayed by Elnaaz Norouzi is something which is left open for Season 2. At least, we know that her real name is not Zoya and she is not as young as everyone thinks she is. Subtle hints from her D.O.B on the ad agency documents, her Pakistani passport and the “plastic surgery” line by Sartaj indicate that she might be somewhere in her late 30s.
We also find out when she visits Gaitonde in the jail to offer sexual favors that her real name is Jamila Zafar, a Farsi speaking teenager from Afghanistan. But, then again, the actual name printed on her Pakistani passport is Parvez Rozi, which is again, very confusing. We all have to watch S2 for more in-deep character work in regards to her.
The trailers and the promos suggested and showcased some new, possibly significant characters joining the show. Despite few hints here and there, it is still undefined how Ranvir Shorey and Kalki Koechlin will affect the show on the overall scale. Judging by the trailer, Shorey could be a cop or a leader of the pack like Malcolm (Luke Kenny) in Season 1.
On the other hand, Kalki is, without a doubt, portraying a character from the present day. Guessing by those ‘religious-based’ curtains from her background, she could be yet another follower of Guruji (Pankaj Tripathi) who believes that it is time for war.
However, surprisingly, Wikipedia suggests that Sobhita Dhulipala (Made in Heaven fame) is also a part of Season 2. And we never heard or seen her name even mentioned in any of the promotional material. Maybe, her character will be a surprise for all of us, a key to a secret door. The images below might hint something related to her involvement in the series.
Amidst Season 1 when Trivedi meets Gaitonde for the first time, Trivedi requests for his help or companionship to achieve their community goal. He also suggests that Gaitonde should move overseas to fulfil the job. However, after Gaitonde blatantly refuses the offer, Guruji and his cult members make the Raja of Gopalmath pay by making Parulkar beating him up to death in the last episode of Season 1.
So, Guruji is running a hefty operation somewhere in one of the African countries (another Wild Wild Country situation here?). His followers are a mix of both Indians and Africans with quite a few rich people involved. We get a glimpse of Malcolm, Bhonsle and a very happy Trivedi included in those enlightening sessions, with a very rich, and exquisite locales. With tons of cash, fast cars and great real estate, it should be intriguing to watch how Guruji built this enormous empire.
Furthermore, we see Gaitonde decked out in fancy clothes, smoking a cigar and signing papers on an office table. So, what exactly is his new responsibility? Is he the one who’s working on the business and trading side of things while his third father is the face of the Ashram? We have to wait and see.
Also, within the first season, Gaitonde kept pointing that his third father also betrayed him due to unknown reasons. Gaitonde trusted and loved Guruji more than everyone else, but, what caused the conflict between the powerful duo and what made Gaitonde shoot himself in the head in the first episode of S1?
Finally, the war. The calamity that every crackpot from Guruji’s cult is hinting to. The final scene in Season 1 when Sartaj discovers the secret underground bunker with Trivedi’s decomposing dead body seems to be a fallout shelter with a Geiger counter, air supply pipes, water cans and many more. At the beginning of the trailer for Sacred Games S2, it feels like Sartaj also found a few maps and blueprints related to the potential nuclear war. As the trailer gave away spoiler that the war is as deadly as Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
