Malik (2022) [Telugu] Review: Very Much Mediocre!

Malik on AHA is a 2022 Telugu movie written, edited and directed by Mahesh Narayanan and a dubbed version of the Malayalam film of the same name starring Fahadh Faasil in the lead with Nimisha Sajayan, Vinay Forrt, Joju George, Dileesh Pothan and Indrans in supporting roles. On the technical team, Sushin Shyam composed the music for the film with Sanu Varghese as the cinematographer.

Malik on AHA revolves around Sulaiman, who moves into a fishing village with his mother and sister. And the social situation makes him drop out of school, get arrested, and earn a living by smuggling goods from off-coast ships. The rest of the film recounts his life, turning into a redeemer of his people.

The underlying theme of Malik on AHA is the relationship between two different neighboring religious communities and how their amicability is turned to animosity by corrupt officials. The biggest positive of this film, Fahadh Faasil has this incredible ability to convey emotions through his eyes, and he makes sure that he does not exaggerate as he stays within the peripheral.

The outline of the story of Malik on AHA and the intention of Narayanan, the director, is nothing unusual when you take examples from the Tamil Cinema Industry. Directors like Pa. Ranjith and Mari Selvaraj are pushing their limits to voice the voiceless through their films. Malik aims to be vocal about the social injustice against the minority community.

Sushin Shyam gives the necessary boost to the film through his music. Sanu Varghese makes the film look more balanced and transfers you to the locale of Ramadapally. Overall, with a runtime of nearly three hours, director Mahesh Narayanan takes his due time to narrate what he intends and succeeds in telling a gripping tale. Yet the fair resemblance and the memories of films of similar kind play the spoilsport.
