My anticipation of the final Jurassic World installment, Dominion, was very low. I enjoyed the first 2015 film, but Fallen Kingdom was a meager and a total disappointment with a confusing mess in storytelling. Dominion had everything going against it, and the end result managed to be worse than I anticipated, ranking slightly lower than the 2018 J. A. Bayona directorial and sitting as the worst of the franchise.

Jurassic World Dominion starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard with Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill as the supporting cast, falls into the same rabbit hole of having multiple subplots sloppily sewed together in an attempt to tell an amalgamated story. The movie brings back several legacy characters from both the first trilogy and the past two Jurassic World films, and it doesn’t flesh out any of them in any substantial way.
The original trio from Jurassic Park, Dern, Neill and Goldblum, are sent on an insignificant side quest until their paths cross with our newer ensemble. The bulk of plot development goes to Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), whose character has never been that appealing to me. Additionally, the film goes the same route as before in embedding familiar tropes and clichés.
There is yet another evil corporation, another “villain” dinosaur (that Colin Trevorrow compares to the Joker for some unknown reason), and some of the most generic lines of dialogue you could concoct. All of this, combined with the lame attempts at character building, a few scenes with dinosaur spectacle, and about an hour of nonsensical filler, and you have a two plus hour-long slog of a movie.
Perhaps there was one neat chase scene, but the action couldn’t be more underwhelming. Part of the reason why each of these aspects fails is that the film doesn’t pay mind to prioritizing these subplots and making them more cohesive. If this film had just been about these characters trying to control a dinosaur outbreak in human society, I wouldn’t be as bothered.
Jurassic World Dominion is one of the lamest major summer blockbusters in recent memory. For once, I would rather it just be some mind-numbing dinosaur spectacle with a bunch of big carnivores smashing into each other instead of the boring-ass subplots given the front and center.
‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Rating – 2/5
