HIT: The First Case Review – A Highly Intriguing Thriller!

HIT (expanded as Homicide Intervention Team) is Tollywood’s yet another huge step forward in the thriller genre, following the blockbuster successes of Swaroop RSJ’s Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya and Sashi Kiran Tikka’s Goodachari. Starring Vishwak Sen in the lead role, the movie also has Ruhani Sharma, Murli Sharma, and veteran actor Bhanuchander as the supporting cast with debutant Sailesh Kolanu calling the shots as the writer-director of this two-hour-ten-minute rollercoaster ride.

[No spoilers] The storyline of HIT: The First Case follows the gripping journey of Vikram (Vishwak Sen), who suffers from severe PTSD, and continues to work as an Investigative Officer despite taking a toll on his mental health. Subsequently, he later finds himself wedged in a terrible situation and volunteers to take up the case of a missing teenager named Preethi. The remainder of the plot traverses through the assorted minutiae of this rigorous investigation that takes quite a few twists and turns higher than a Nürburgring race track.

The first two of the many aspects that a thriller film requires is a compelling story, and an even more captivating, and a well-written screenplay which hits the ball out-of-the-park from start to finish. With HIT: The First Case, Sailesh Kolanu did what is needed precisely, and told an exhilarating story which surprised me ceaselessly for the most part.

The movie begins on a high note and denies taking the foot off the gas pedal for its entirety. The narrative commands the viewer’s attention and succeeded in keeping them intrigued, thanks to the chic storytelling style, which is fully backed by introducing a myriad of possibilities that have the potential of swinging the entire story at any given time.

Sailesh Kolanu also understands the importance of his characters, and make them seem as real and authentic as possible. Every main character in the movie, be it, Murli Sharma, as the reckless police officer – Ibrahim, Srinath as a hostile adversary to Vikram, etc. are given a moment to shine before the lens and had something significant to offer to the overall story.

The main protagonist of the film, Vishwak Sen, gave a performance of a lifetime, and, without a doubt, the best I’ve seen in recent times. He took a very unconventional, snappy, complicated, and sensitive character and made it work with his incredible screen presence, commanding demeanor, and commendable dialogue delivery. Although his side of the story is still left open and explained in brief subplots, it is still captivating to watch his character go through this emotional strain both mentally and physically. His chemistry with Ruhani Sharma (Chi La Sow fame) worked, and their relationship was subtly illustrated in concise flashbacks that didn’t take anything away from the chief narrative.

Vivek Sagar’s astounding background score fits into the narrative flawlessly and elevated every single scene to it’s highest potential. Also, the admirable sound design, camera work by S Manikandan, and editing by Garry BH intensified the overall quality of the movie in all respects. To conclude, HIT: The First Case is a breathtaking movie-watching experience that is only made possible by Sailesh Kolanu’s striking writing skills, exceptional performances (especially from Vishwak Sen), and unorthodox characters. This film will continue to elevate the standards of Telugu Cinema and is an edge-of-the-seat, highly intriguing thriller that you cannot miss watching.
