Halloween Kills Review: A Strong Sequel!

A sequel to the 2018 movie, Halloween Kills is a 2021 slasher directed by David Gordon Green, written by Scott Teems, Danny McBride, and Green, and is based on the characters created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis in the primary role with Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, and others in supporting roles.

The twelfth film in a 40-year-old franchise, Halloween Kills, picks up right where the last one left off (spoilers for Halloween 2018) as Michael Myers escapes Laurie Strodeâ€™s burning house and recapitulates on his murderous rampage. Strode and her family, still limping from their last attempt to end Myers, inspire many to hunt him down again and finish him once and for all.

After watching this past weekend, I thought Halloween Kills was decent and executed well inside and out. David Gordon Green’s direction was on-point, and his writing partners, Danny McBride and Teems made sure that the screenplay is decent throughout the film. Furthermore, on the positive side of things, visually, this movie looked fantastic on the big screen, and Michael Simmonds did a terrific job with the camera.

However, my biggest issue with Halloween Kills is the dialogue delivery. The performances from the entire cast were decent, especially Jamie Lee Curtis, as she stole the show once again. However, I felt there were a few scenes where the delivery didnâ€™t work for me. It can also be due to some poor dialogue.

Overall, I think Halloween Kills is a more memorable movie than the 2018 edition of the franchise. It manages to cram in a ton of fan service which may turn people off but, personally, as a fan of the franchise, it entertained me. I also think this felt like more of a Halloween product than the previous one and felt like itâ€™s own film and spends only a little time trying to set up the next one, the conclusion of this trilogy in 2022.
