F9: The Fast Saga Review – Elevating Stupidity!

F9 Movie Review India: It’s almost impossible to think that a franchise that originated as a Point Break remake has become one of the highest-earning film franchises on the planet, much less make it to nine instalments (with ten confirmed). At this point, the films have become memes and probably some of the most polarizing things to date, and the first major blockbuster released movie post-pandemic. So, suffice it to say F9: The Fast Saga has very high expectations.

So, what’s good in F9? Do you like Saturday morning cartoons? Because that’s what this film is. From the very beginning till the end, the ability of this film to consistently one-up itself to the point of insanity is something right out of a traditional Looney Toons episode.

What sells it more is the ability Justin Lin has to present that absurdity in F9 in a way that everything feels believable. Lin was born to make these movies because all of his tend to be the best (not counting Tokyo Drift). The VFX could be VERY spotty at times, but for the most part, they work and sell the action in a way that blends the real stunts with the fake stuff. Fights in the movie are cartoon, but they still feel impactful, particularly with Han in the car at the end.

The storyline of F9 for what it’s worth is also emotionally impactful IF you can buy into the retconning. One, in particular, doesn’t work, but for the most part, the story between Dom and Jacob works and helps to flush out more of the origin story of Dom. The themes also work better as it’s sold by the performances of the cast. Don’t mistake that for being quality, but it’s sold well with the absurdity.

Moving on, as I said before, the biggest issue of F9 comes in the retcon of how Han (Sung Kang) is alive. At least when they had Shaw kill him in Fast and Furious 6, it felt like a natural reveal, but here the film can barely form a sentence to explain it and ends up saying, go with it. It doesn’t work, and although I LOVE having Han back, it feels like a jab in the eyes to get it.

Outside of that issue, this is without a doubt, a cartoon of a movie, and if that isn’t your vibe, I get it. Honestly, I haven’t seen a film that I walked out of speechless while also enjoying a lot. F9 is the climax of 20 years worth of films and the acceptance of absurdity. To be honest, I love cartoons, and this only gets me more hyped of Fas10 your Seat Belts.
