Delhi Crime S2 Review: Ends Up as an Ordinary Thriller!

The second part in Netflix’s Delhi Crime franchise stars the recurring cast of Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, and Rajesh Tailang in the primary roles, with Gopal Datt, Anurag Arora, Sidharth Bhardwaj, and Adil Hussain playing the supporting cast. The storyline picks up right after the events of Season 1. Delhi, ransacked with increasing crime rate, must now face a threat in the form of the Kachcha-Baniyan gang, a group of house burglars who only target senior citizens. Shocking and brutal being the main keywords, DCP Vartika Chaturvedi and her team unite to solve these complicated crimes before it is too late.

Firstly, let’s focus on the positives of Delhi Crime because there are only a few things I want to highlight. Personally, I loved the first season so much that I kept recommending the show to everyone I knew back in 2019. And because I’m very much impressed with the cast and the show’s authentic approach, I finished Season 2 in one sitting.

A few things assisted this binge-watching to sail smoothly, with the first aspect being the runtime and the number of episodes. Richie Mehta and his team, alongside Director Tanuj Chopra, made sure that the story does not drag to any extent, which can happen when you’re executing a murder mystery. And with the number of movies and series relying on this genre in the current OTT-dominated world, this could’ve been a chore to watch, but it is not, at least for the most part.

The cast, their camaraderie, and the overall performances also make S2 a decent watch inside and out. Shefali Shah continues her stellar form and once again nails her character as the DCP with multiple stand-out scenes. Rasika Duggal’s character, Neeti Singh, is fleshed out even more this time when compared to the others. She, alongside Rajesh Tailang, feel natural in their roles and was a treat to watch.

As I mentioned, the initial storyline of Delhi Crime S2 was gripping and entertaining for the first three episodes. But when it gets rolling and the mystery is revealed, I felt like it went down from there. Season 1 dealt with a very sensitive subject that impacted the entire country, so the emotional connection with the entire incident was always there from the viewer’s end. Therefore, S1 had a few things going from the get-go, and Mehta made sure that he executed the subject skillfully.

When it comes to Season 2 of Delhi Crime, the overall premise is basic, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it’s boring, but I’ve seen this format tried, tested, and beaten to death over the past few years. The climax was very much unimpactful, and the entire season unlike the previous one did not feel authentic and came off as a typical Bollywood product. Overall, Delhi Crime S2 on Netflix had its moments, but it’s very much an average product when compared to S1.
