Birdman (2014) Review: An Eye-Popping Experience!

Distinguished with its Academy award nominations, Birdman, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, is a beguiling experience held up with every single aspect of a movie counting its direction, story, screenplay and performances. Displayed as a Broadway play, the narration of the movie comprises the life story of Riggan Thompson, (Michael Keaton) a washed-out actor who was well-known for playing the character of Birdman in a blockbuster movie franchise back in 1992. Instantly after realizing his current status in Hollywood, he decides star, direct and put together a Broadway play in hopes to revitalize his career and life.

With its cutting-edge approach, the three main attributes which were taken aback from the movie is the story, screenplay and above all, the filmmaking style. In accordance with the narrative thoughts, the movie had a lot to recount about life, struggle, duality, modern-day blockbuster movies and film criticism. It retold every single aspect with an audacious technique which were rousing and dynamic.

Breaking new ground with its ingenious concept to make the movie look like a single take, it surely should have a helping hand with the screenplay and director, Alejandro Iñárritu did an awe-inspiring job in creating that captivating vibe to the movie. With the emerging expertise in the digital edit technology and a perfectly penned screenplay, the movie looked incredibly on-screen.

After a brief truancy in his career, this was undoubtedly the best performance he had given in a while, his reformation was perceptible and the psychotic demented character he played was prominent pier for the movie. Also, Edward Norton and Emma Watson were completely astounding and they do deserve their oscar nominations.

To conclude, Birdman is a genre based film which will appeal to only a particular set of audience who admire a film as an art form. The narrative and the filmmaking standards were immaculate in the movie accompanied by few marvelous performances from the cast. Watch ‘Birdman’ on Netflix here.
