8 Biggest Bollywood Disappointments of 2022

On the topic of the Biggest Bollywood Disappointments of 2022, let’s all be very honest, Bollywood had a disastrous year in 2022, except for blockbusters like Bhool Bhulaiya 2 and The Kashmir Files and average money makers like Jug Jugjeeyo and Gangubai Kathiawadi, no other film had a decent run, despite a superb line-up of releases. So, documenting the biggest disasters, here are the Biggest Bollywood Disappointments of 2022.

8. Cirkus

With a budget of 200 crores and an even higher ignorance level of director Rohit Shetty, who believes that his films are critic-proof and can work under any circumstances, got a massive reality-check with Cirkus. This will be third disaster in a row for Ranveer Singh, a fourth disaster in a row for Pooja Hegde in this year alone, and is an overall clown-fest of a movie.

7. Dhaakad

The previous film’s success of Kangana Ranaut surely got to her head as no one showed up to watch her action film Dhaakad at any point. Collecting 3.6 cr to an 85 cr budget, this failure did send shockwaves across the industry, especially for Kangana, who, to everyone’s surprise, admitted that she failed hard with this film.

6. Jayeshbhai Jordaar

[Also feat. in our ‘Best Indian Movies of 2022 on Amazon’ list]

Ranveer Singh’s supposed popularity accounted for nearly nothing for the openings of Jayeshbhai Jordaar mainly due to the fact that the audiences are not interested in watching social dramas in theaters after the COVID pandemic. With a mere 26 crore worldwide gross for a 86 cr budget, this movie was one of the firsts to start a tidal wave of box-office bombs for Bollywood.

5. Heropanti 2

Tiger Shroff, who overhypes himself rather than his fans or the audience, got a rude awakening with Heropanti 2. Another dumb action film that he and the makers thought to get away with if congested with heavy action sequences, tons of glamor, and the typical Bollywood herogiri. The movie collected nowhere near what’s expected, despite having Tara Sutaria as the co-lead, Kriti Sanon appearing in a special song, and besides having the Tiger man.

4. Vikram Vedha

One of the primary reasons why the Bollywood remake of Vikram Vedha with Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan as the lead stars failed at the box office is because it cost 175 crores to make, while the Tamil original got it done within a tight 11 crore budget. Overinflated actor fees, production costs, and the maker’s lack of understanding of the audience pulse made Vikram Vedha a flop despite getting good reviews.

3. Shamshera

Although the trailers promised different from Ranbir Kapoor, Shamshera did not really manage to funnel any excitement from the audience from the get-go. While people are on the fence waiting for positive word-of-mouth, the bad reviews played the spoilsport. Being quite a big-budget vehicle with more than 150 crores involved, this movie was a box-office bomb on every front.

2. All Akshay Kumar Movies

Akshay Kumar had a disastrous year in 2022, and it’s no surprise, given the quality of the movies. Bachchhan Paandey, opposite Kriti Sanon, got tossed for being a remake and releasing at the wrong time between The Kashmir Files and RRR. For Samrat Prithviraj, the audience got the sense that either Akshay or the makers didn’t take the movie seriously. Raksha Bandhan, despite garnering decent word-of-mouth was not able to take off at the box office, similar to Ram Setu. It is safe to say that there is Akshay Kumar movie fatigue, and making mediocre to bad movies is not helping either.

1. Laal Singh Chaddha

It all went south for Laal Singh Chaddha right from its initial trailer launch during the IPL 2022 Finals between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals. From being a remake of Forrest Gump to Aamir Khan’s weird acting style and the lack of excitement to make people watch the movie in the theater, nothing worked in favor of this drama from top to bottom. The result – was one of the biggest disasters in Aamir’s career. A failure that made him take a sabbatical break.
